This article is a very offensive, defametary and insulting article. These type of work , in the long run, creates problems among different segments of a Nation. Redif, please don't encourage people this type of things.
The cuisine of Bangladesh (not W Bengal), specially the non veg part and not limited to fish, is appreciated across the world. Find it strange that Bikash Mohapatra cannot find mutton or chicken in Dhaka. The 52 folds Dhakai Paratha is supposed to be a work of art. And thats only an example.
Reporting of avian flu scare and that too on hearsay...this is criminal.
Its cause of people like this that we don't have good relationship with any of our neigbours. It would be impossible for a normal sane bangladeshi to harbour good thoughts about India after reading this article in mainstream Indian press. If anyone has written such a factually wrong article about India, I would definitely have marked the writer as anti Indian.
This tendency to downgrade the Nepali, the Sinhalese, the Bangladeshi as if we are intellectually and culturally superior to them only showcases our own inferiority complex.
Guess India is really running out of talent. How else such incompetent people get jobs in mainstream media? Or Rediff is not mainstream media?

Dont worry, both W Bengal and Orissa made it to teh list of Eight most backward states of India as per UNDP report for 2010. Thse eight states together have a population of 400 million and UNDP states that the levels of poverty illiteracy and backwardness in these states is worse than that in the 25 poorest nations of Africa.
So you Bengalis and Oriyas stop fighting among yourselves....there is not much to fight between the two of you. You and the other babuas of north India are all a disgrace to India.

your wording speaks of your narrow bengali attitude. who says that orissa is always behind Bengal. Have you read history? When there was Utkala or kalinga where your Bengal was? You Bengalis were the GOOMASTA of the Britishers and only when they came and divided the country you took the opportunities and devastate orissa. Orissa is culturally far more ahead of Bengal. It is your Bengali attitude and advertisement that has kept up your culture. But now slowly but steadly everything is coming to forefront. Orissa is now a much better place than bengal. People are much better too. Not behind Bengal for sure.Donot be in a state of confusion. just come and see. Your Bengali effort to keep Orissa under Bengal has fallen aprt. Just come here and see.

Really? Well then let me enlighten you, friend, that if north indians were really as good as what they boast about, then horse back riders from Arabia, Afghanistan and persia would not have invaded and enslaved such 'powerful and great' North Indian kings. Especially since you people had garrisons, armies and reinforcement here. So how come you people allowed the invaders to come from 1000s of miles away and enslave and convert you and do unspeakable acts with your women that forced them to commit Sati?
Now again, how come, the only kings from India that ever succeeded in invading and capturing foreign lands were NOT north indian kings, but Cholas and Cheras of South India. Yes, friend, modern day Indonesia (Sumatra, Borneo), Malaysia, Singapore etc were caputred by the Navies and ARmies of Cholas/Cheras who established their administration, taxation and rule there. On the other hand North Indian rulers ceded Taxila and other parts of India to the rulers for ever (Afghanistan was part of so called 'Akhand Bharat' to begin with).
I can go on and on...but it is difficult to knock sense into the heads of semi literates. I am always amazed about the abject ignorance in the North Indian people. YOu guys have no desire for knowledge and only rely on empty boasts. Disgraceful!

LOL...when was the last time you read any news paper.
First, let me enlighten you about who makes decisions for the nation. Here are teh list of top IAS officers running this country:

Infact these posts have been traditionally dominated by Tamil IAS officers, follwed by keralites. Now the order has reversed.

Please take penalty action against this reporter. His reports shows a tendency to downgrade Kolkata alongwith Dhaka and finally the entire population who speak Bengali. The problems he indicated can be happened in ANY city in India ( including North and West India). At least Kolkata and Dhaka are better than the 'rape capital' Delhi. I am still okay to withdraw my last sentence. But please remove this article, otherwise you may see MANY LEGAL HAZARDS.

Actually Orissa and Bengal being neighbouring states, the former has always played second fiddle to Bengal in almost all fields.
Hence naturally Oriyas who are culturally and intellectually far inferior are sometimes taken for a ride in Bengal, Bikash probably was one of them.
Now because of the industrial boom all Tom, Dick and Harry have found jobs in sites like Rediff and hence Bikash finally gets a chance to vent the frustrations of himself and his forefathers.
I am sorry for your Bikashy and yes no offense meant buddy...I hope you are good cook since you may need to get back to your roots soon, else there are many jobs for security guards and drivers in Bangalore which is filled 99% by your ilk.
