India - DEFINETLY A STAND OUT TEAM
by Uday Kulkarni on Feb 12, 2011 12:36 AM

As WC is getting closer; all mind games will begin esp with Ricky Ponting(England also tried doing same but are quiet now after their 6-1 beating). You have Shahid Afridi, Sangakara, all making comments and the pressure will certainly be on India for various various reasons. But the bottom line- Will India lift the WC though it is definetly a stand out team ? Remember 1983? It was not the top players alone like Kapildev who won the cup for India but there were these all rounders like Binny, Mohinder who gave the solidity for that win. The same would be applicable now in 2011 where the success will not just depend on 6/7 star players alone ( Sehwag;Sachin;Gambhir;Dhoni;Harbhajan,Zaheer, Yusuf) but a lot on the younsters like Raina;Kohli;Sreesanth,Chawla, Ashwin and other experienced players like Yuvaraj; Nehra;& Munaf who will have to play and perform whenever the top 4 batsman & 2 strike bowlers( Bhajee & Zaheer) fall short. If the youngsters also perform equally and consistently to their capabilities; that will take away the pressure from top 6/7 players and allow them to strike hard at any opposition team and they will not be able to stop India from lifting the world cup 2011. Just like Sehwag says that he will try to play 50 overs, it only means that if other players also play equally well and support sehwag; tendulkar, gambhir, Indian team will be really unbeatable.

Punter is SMART
by Jason Bourne on Feb 11, 2011 11:45 PM

See, ask our guys and they say, "we are the favourites, lets win this for ____"

Ask Punter, he says "India/SA are favourites". He is trying to deflect pressure and just go win it. We have youngesters like Raina, Kohli, Pathan, Chawla. We need to take pressure off.

Go Team India

Australia best team right now
by Indranil Chowdhury on Feb 11, 2011 10:53 PM  | Hide replies

Australia has the best team now. Indian batting on paper is a shade better than theirs, but their bowling is so much better than ours. They are also in scintillating form, not our boys. They dont stand a chance unless they pick themselves up.

Indranil; their bowling(Australian) is better only on Australian soil. They have only two star bowlers in Doug Bollinger and Bret Lee. No spinners and that is going to haunt them on Indian and Srilankan pitches . Australia is not all that strong especially only 3/4 good batsman not all in good form - Ricky Ponting, Clarke, Shane Watson and David Hussey. Their batsmen will struggle against quality spinners like Murli and Harbhajjan, Chawla etc.

contradictory
by Sameer joseph on Feb 11, 2011 07:23 PM  | Hide replies

punter's two sentences are contradictory to each other.
1) "I don't really care where we start the tournament. It's irrelevant".

2) "We are pretty confident coming into the World Cup, just beating a pretty good English side 6-1.

if u really dont care, how can u be confident ?

padhna likhna seekho.

He doesn't care where he starts the tournament. Which means he is confident about playing in any conditions.
