There is a widely held erroneous belief that Sehwag is a gamble of a player. That is so ignorant because it puts Sehwag in the league of Gilchrist and Afridi. Sehwag is no Gilchrist no Afridi.
Sehwag is the single most consistent Indian Test batsman. He averages 53.xx, has hit on all grounds, against all oppositions.

Dont put Shahid Afridi in the league of Gilchrist or Virender Sehwag, he is nowhere in comparison, leave alone equal to these legends.
He IS just a flash in the pan player who is basically a slogger and ag quality bowling he is a big zero

whose telling that viru hasn't scored overseas ?? ........ viru score equally in overseas .. when india went to Newzealand tour under ganguly only viru scored on those grounds out of 22 players all other legend failed there .. Also,Viru scored dashingly in Australia & in England

why guess wrongly when you always can check. only becuase you want to win an argument or because you dont like viru?
Re: Sehwag needs to be little more consistent

Agreed, also he needs to score more runs overseas on fast and bouncy pitches and destroy bowling attacks like he does so often on Indian pitches.
Sir Viv did that and that is why he was so universally feared by his peers and admired by scores of present generation. All from Sachin to Viru, Lara, Ponting, Pieterson, Warnie, Rahul, VVS, Gilly, etc all hailed him as their hero.
KP will certainly never forget sehwag. when KP was captain of eng team which came to india, KP confidently set india a target of 387 to chase in the 4th innings thinking eng stood a very good chance to win the test. but he reckoned without sehwag who scored 87 runs in 63 odd balls to flatten and demoralise the eng attack and helped win the game for india and was very deservedly MOM. It was his knock scored at the rate of around 8 runs per over (in test match cricket!) which was responsible for india win.
KP will certainly dream of sehwag because of that!

Virender Sehwag is modern day's Sir Vivian Richards, like his hero, he is also a devastating batsman who can murder any bowling attack on any pitch anywhere in the world. There is striking similarities in their play, except in domineering presence, Sir Viv was something else, he was imperious and lordly.

Richards had an average of 51, Sehwag's average is 53 . West Indies won matches because of Marshal, Garner and Roberts, very few ocassions because of Richards

Vivek, you are wrong when you tell Sir Viv won less matches for Windies and what all they won was due to Marshall, Roberts, Garner, etc. It was the other way around, it was his powerful destructive batting and gave his team hopes of winning matches which they did.
There are several instances when he had done that, to name a few, he scored 153 NO on one leg ag Lillee, Thomson Hogg in their prime on a fast pitch in a ODI in Australia, this gave them many runs and won the match. Similarly, he scored 140 in a test in Aus and that classic 189 NO ag England which gave his team winning hopes. In the Packer series in late 1970s, he scored several centuries ag some of the fastest bowlers and helped his team win most of the matches.
Sir Viv was the one who gave that power and dynamism to his team and in him vested that fab team's hopes. He was one of a kind whom we shall never see again.

I think Sehwag is better than Vivian Richards.Look at the average and the strike rate. Also Richards never scored a triple ton, Sehwag has two to his credit!!!!!!!!!!!!

it will take sehwag few births to become equal of richards... and discusssion here is about 1-dayers and not test matches... all toms and harrys become expert and start saying sehwag this and sehwag that... sehwag is an excellant test player without doubt but in 1-dayers his record is very ordinary and inconsistent... 1-day matches are not won by scoring 25 odd runs of 20 balls by openers... either he needs to score atleast 60-70 runs often or he should be coming at 6/7...

Averages dont count much, it is the way one played and ag whom one played. Sir Viv is universally acknowledged as among the top five best batsman of all times and he had that aura and batting ability to do that. He played without a helmet and in his time, there were plenty of fast bowlers ag whom he dominated and scored stacks of runs.
Viru is good, but not as good as Sir Viv, that is the real truth. Sir Viv is in the best ODI and Test teams of all times and is rated as the third greatest player of all times bu WISDEN.
You may have your own opinion, but facts tell something else across the cricket world.

Vivek Sharma:
So Viv is more devastating.... even without triple tons against paltry attacks on placid pitches, his average is equivalent to Sehwag and he was able to tear apart the opposition...

Truly, well commented. This test was more intersting & thrilling than any of ODI.Sehwag was simply great.

his record in 1-dayers is very bad ...now a days matches are not won by scoring 25 odd rubs of 20 balls by openers...
