Re: Re: Re: Cannot call this win comfortable by any means.

munaf cannot even bend to stop ball. He give more runs with his lousy fielding, he actually has fitness problem that he cannot hide.
secondly, munaf should learn pace instead of fast spin.

and praveen needs to retrain himself so he is good again and is not a bunny of batsmen like peitersen who wait for praveen to play so they can hit. Same happened with Munaf in England.

worse, when entire team sat inside to have D/L in their favor during rain, munaf sat outside so they can play again and match goes in England favour/ Yusuf did something on similar lines in West-indies.

selectors in deadlock again.
they need to be ready for australia. it is time to act selectors.bowling attack exposeed, should not expose ashwin/etc too much, get rahul into variation and rotation. Aaron needs rotation as well. Same with parthiv and gambhir, where is Rahane and saha?

Agree with you! Ashwin is good but cannot expose him and should bring Rahul sharma for rotation within a test. And happy to know people are not thinking of bhajji as his period is gone and its time for him to njoy what he earned and also he can still play IPL

We have seen over the years that ODI bowling is difficult for new comers since they want to bowl quick. The problem with bowling quick on Indian conditions is the eco rate of bowlers like Ishant and Sreesanth are about 5.72 and 6.01 respectively.

Which makes Munaf and Zaheer in contention always inspite of fitness problems.

With Praveen kumar Injured again the ODI attack is short of bowlers who can bowl like Zaheer or Munaf.

Vinay Kumar is the most impressive overall with pace around 80-85mph and swing for one dayers. The newcomers Umesh and Aaron are quicker but probably have eco rates of about 5.5 in one dayers.

Varun was trained at the MRF and is aware of the ODI needs in addition to pace. Bowling the yorkers, slower ones, bouncers, length ball and reverse swing takes time.

Before we sort all that out we need the services of Zaheer, Nehra and Munaf for one dayers.

Future of 1-day bowling
by Nikhil Shah on Dec 03, 2011 05:58 AM  | Hide replies

The current Indian ODI bowling attack looks like this:

Zaheer 191 mtchs ave=28.84 eco=4.91
Munaf 70 mtchs ave=30.26 eco=4.95
Praveen K 61 mtchs ave=34.84 eco=5.03
Ishant Sharma 47 mtchs ave=32.12 eco=5.72
Sreesanth 53 mtchs ave=33.00 eco=6.07

With Zaheer having a few years left in him, Munaf and Praveen are
the only two we have in the long term to play in the 1-dayers.

Vinay, Aaron and Yadav have to bring down the eco rates in ODIs down to
about 5.00 or less to remain in contention for ODI bowling. Otherwise they will
have to switch to Tests only if they manage retain pace above 140 kph.
It looks like Vinay has to improve quite a bit.

Zaheer has set a standard in current ODI bowling which maintains a eco rate
below 5 and an average below 30. He can also bowl in Tests as well.

Munaf and Praveen can hang around for about 5-6 years. The only hope is Umesh
Yadav and Aaron for the 3rd seamer in the 1-dayers.

ODI's have become Batsman oriented and all bowlers are getting caned. There will be more bad days for the bowlers but the guys you mentioned Vinay, Aaron and Yadav are the best that we have at the moment. Vinay who seems to invoke so much strong feelings has the knack of taking wickets consistently . Cut him some slack. Dont view Cricketers as commodities or some kind of flavour of the day to be only thrown away frequently

Agree with you on Aaron/yadav but Vinay never looked like a decent bowler and does not seem to have pace or swing or wicket taker (like zaheer). Munaf /praveen are slow bowlers. Munaf is lucky player to be part of winning wc team.

I am not sure if you actually watched Vinay bowl. Probably you should just google 'Vinay kumars patented outswinger' and read up some of the articles.
He bowls out swinger ,may not be super past but has good out swinger.

Another win without the likes of Sachin, Dhoni, Yuvi, Zaheer & Harbhajan (though most of them will disagree with me on Bhajji's presence). Good going Team India! Fanatic followers of Sachin & Dhoni will be crying because we won without their heroes :)

The ferocious and unplayable Roach, Rampaul and Pollard finally conquered. This win will be remembered for a long time; even better than the WC win!

Pseudo: This is what i always appreciate about you...you are true cricket fan and a true indian cricket fan...you always appreciate all the good performances of everybody may they be of any country....

the way you admire all indian players is well known...they are all grateful to have true cricket fans like you...

the only thing i dont like about your posts is that though you always acknowledge and laud all good performances you are always miserly in your praise when it comes to sachin...i dont understand why it seems like you are always spitting on all his good performances....

And there are some fools here who think that you only praise sachin's performance and spit on all other india players' performances...such idiots they are!...:)

Cannot call this win comfortable by any means.
by Nikhil Shah on Dec 03, 2011 04:18 AM  | Hide replies

After getting an excellent start by the bowlers the WI to reach 269 was a impossibility. Playing teams like WI makes the Indian team complacent and they should concentrate on winning the next 3 with ease rather then the huffing and puffing are seeing.

It would be better if Parthiv is moved to bat at #6 and if he does'nt score we can just look at it as a failed Dhoni.

Overall, Vinay Kumar was impressive when the conditions are suitable, his pace is a bit brisker than Praveen and seems like only Munaf and Zaheer are capable of maintaning an eco rate of 5.0 and below.

That means that India's ODI bowling attack is still emerging and Vinay, Yadav and Aaron are still very raw.

The bowling attack needs more coaching and training and since they lack know how on keeping the runs down in the sub-continental they need to be retained in the side longer for
grooming them in the longer term.
