Total surrender
by Suresh Rao on Jan 07, 2012 10:53 AM

The Selectors must now come into action. Enough is enough. They should drop senior players viz.Sachin, Laxman and Dravid and give chance to young players.

The bottom line is: our Test openers were out of sync
by Nikhil Shah on Aug 24, 2011 11:29 PM

The aftermath of this series boils down to one thing. Over the past 7 tests or 14 innings they had the right and best options in the WI tour of Mukund and Vijay.

In the absence of Shewag and Gambhir. So for the England tour should the selectors go with a pair which has been playing but not as established as Gambhir and Sehwag?

This resulted in India getting poor starts for the last 14 Test innings. What is the solution then?

It would be better to not rest the openers. Shewag was injured but that was not avoidable. Missing both openers in WI was a problem.

Murali Vijay had bailed Gambhir out in India, but it is not possible to bail both out at the same time.

The inclusion of Ishant and Gambhir has made a big difference to the Indian side over the last 2 years. We hope Varun Aaron and Rahane can add to this difference.

Though Ishant has slowed down, Varun will make a similar impact early. If he can decide to focus more high nutrition diet and a very strict fitness regimen along with playing lesser cricket than needed.

Varun Aaron in this short List-A career has an eco rate of 4.6, which makes him a legitimate contender with his pace to survive the Indian team.

Touring strategy to be reviewed
by LOL on Aug 24, 2011 07:54 AM  | Hide replies

I think it all boils down to the touring strategy. We have not understood a few main aspects from past performances. To help improve we should put in place a strategy that includes....

1) Not tour SA, NZ, Eng and Aus because they prepare bouncy tracks as well and our weakness is exposed already.

2) Not tour Sri lanka as they prepare spinning tracks that does not suit Indian spinners.

3) No one recommends touring Pak due to political climate.

4) We just finished the WI series. Since they will gain strength with the newer talent find and the pitches are known to be true, avoid touring WI for the benefit of Indian cricket

5) SO that leaves Zim, Bangladesh and of course Netherlands!

6) An alternative is true to Indian tradition we can invite every team to India so our players can be comfortable playing their natural game!

Any takers?

good thinking.

However the real problem lies somewnere else.

Too much of T 20 cricket being incorporated, Hit the ball hard and longer, forget techniques, score 30 0r 40 and secure your place in the team. These are the mantras of the coaches at junior level. Techniques and staying power is not appreciated by any of the coaches.

i remember Gavaskar use to bat for 2 days at a stretch and never make a single mistake nor lose his patience. He would most upset getting out to a wrong shot.
Let us accept that we do not now produce cricketers for TEST CRICKET who can bat in ENGLAND OR AUSTRALIA.
The senior players still have it in them and if they go away you will find scores of 100 or 200 all out very frequently

Diversity is Hurting team sports
by LOL on Aug 24, 2011 07:29 AM  | Hide replies

I think one of the issues thats ailing team sports in India in general is the diversity we have with respect to the different states and the people. No other team involved in any team sport like football, hockey, basketball etc in the world has this constraint. For any team sport to be successful, there has to be total synergy and this comes only with people feeling connected to each other through a common language. English does not have a great chance since less than 10% use this on a day to day basis. If we send any regional team, they will be able to put up a better performance in a team sport situation than the national team in the long run...

Ravi Shastri!

Does he remember how he was dismissed in second innings of Bangalore Test against Pakistan in 1987, when India needed him to stay at the wicket?
He need not teach the present generation Cricketers.
Gavaskar should similarly remember his 2nd innings at Calcutta against West Indies in 1983, when India were trailing by nearly 250, and he made 20, throwing his bat at everything! He may have been a master batsman, but he was most undisciplined.

Also think about the fights they put about in Tied test (1986) (Shastri) and the 1979 test at Oval against England (Gavas) and the 1981 test at Melbourne against Australia (Gavas). They are all knocks worth being written in gold. They have done their bit in the past...

No wonder there is no criticism about scheduling or selection in their comments even now.

This Tim Bresnan.... fortunate chap.
by NashikMarathi on Aug 24, 2011 02:20 AM

He has played 10 tests for England. 2 vs WI, 3 vs Bangles, 2 versus Aus and 3 vs India.

England has won all 10 of them. 5 of them by an innings.

Hmmm... whatever.

Shastri is completely worthless

He has no opinion of any worth. He simply mumbles what the majority says. There is no insight nor any sort of thoughtfulness in Shastri's opinions..

Did you notice, he was only criticizing England when Gawasker and couple others start criticizing. And then Ravi will say the same things that others have said.

Now, if other start praising England or India, Ravi will start doing the same.

The spinless con doesn't have any of his opinions. He basically doesn't balls to say exactly what he thinks..

And he is a useless commentator.
Everytime he says 'Opening the face of the Blade', I feel like throwing a shoe at him.
Is it a blade which the player plays with?

No vision

Do this selection committee has any vision for future of Team India. I am afraid Kris Srikant do the selection in the same manner as he used to do batting i.e. 'carefree'. This current selection Committee is only living on the good work done by the earlier selection Committee.

Even Dhoni was riding on the team prepared by Ganguly and to a certain extent Dravid/Kumble. Really, with the possible exceptions of Ishant Sharma, not a single worthwhile player came up since 2005!! Praveen is only 6 tests old - hence too early to comment in spite of his decent performance in England.
