Reason for the defeat was the Sehwag/Gambhir pair out of sync
by Nikhil Shah on Aug 23, 2011 11:56 PM

Over the decades India's improvement in
overseas matches has been because of a strong
opening pair.

This changed after Gambhir and Sehwag arrived at the scene and the middle order got some cushion to bat under. In addition to that the bowling attack gets sorted out for the series and with a few draws they can manage to bowl well once in a while and do well in the series.

The intermitent firing of Viru/Gambhir pair reduced the pressure on the entire team along with a high batting SR. The middle order
got a breather and typically faced an older
ball with conditions after lunch sessions.

Raina in particular was exposed when the top
order fails and if the middle order was out of
form suddenly Raina had to play a big innings
which was not possible for him.

Hopefully, the arrival of Rahane, and then
Rohit Sharma, Pujara and Tiwari will solve
this issue.

The replacement of the middle order could have been handled properly with the start of the SA tour. Positions, #4, #5 and #6 were available in the WI tours and it should have been given to Rahane, Sharma, Tiwari since Pujara was injured.

Sharma has an domestic FF average of 61 and was persisted too long for one dayers. Tiwari was never properly integrated as a middle order Test prospects who opened a disastrous 1-day innings.

Pujara has done well India with the potential of being the future. The chances with Virat, Raina and Yuvraj have been wasted in Tests, instead the Rahane, Sharma, Pujara and Tiwari was a better bunch.

gavaskar any day greater than sachin
by vilas apte on Aug 23, 2011 10:45 AM  | Hide replies

rahul dravid & sunil gavaskar are india's best ever test batsmen. look at sunil,he batted without a helmet faced bowlers of the calibre of lillee, thompson, imran, sarfaraz, john snow, richard hadlee, roberts, holding, garner, marshall, & scored any number of runs. in his debut series sunil scored 4 centuries & 774 runs in 4 tests. also he saved india in 1978 from a washout @ the hands of pakistan by scoring a 100 in each innings @ karachi. rahul dravid's essay is endless, one has lost the list of times he has rescued india or brought it to a position of strength. sachin stands nowhere in front of these two true sons of india.

I think India has produced some marvellous cricketers, each having their scintillating moments to choose from...
At the same time if one wants to choose negatives there are a plenty too...
So I'd rather not go down the your pants are longer than mine attitude...

For sachin bashers
by Raja on Aug 23, 2011 10:40 AM  | Hide replies

I am not a great fan of sachin but still i would like to say that all ppl saying that he never performs when it is required . I look it from other perspective and that is whenever he fails without scoring we feel his presence in other words we would have felt his presence had he failed to score on the any of his 99 centuries....Y make a single player accountable...let us be fair

IS TEAM INDIA PROVING?
by SRIDHAR RAGHUNATHARAO on Aug 23, 2011 10:38 AM

When we won 1983 world cup, it was a comment from others that it was a fluke and a flash in the pan. However, Kapildev, Gavaskar, Ravi and others proved that their notion was wrongly conceived by winning Benson&Hedges and Asia Cup. Immediately after our 2011 win our team has faced such humiliating innings defeats and a total whitewash from the team who has never won World Cup. The disgrace is compounded by slipping straightly from top position to third place. Have we proved that they are right?

Killer instinct
by Raja on Aug 23, 2011 10:30 AM  | Hide replies

This is the difference between Indian team and other teams. Had indians led the series 3-0 they would have taken the game very lightly and rested most of the senior players. But england inspite of winning the series in the last test still played to their full strength and completed white wash.Unless indians hv this killer instinct they can never be on top.

sachin is everything
by Jugal Ahuja on Aug 23, 2011 10:12 AM  | Hide replies

this article starts with sachin missing his 100, i.e more important than india losing 0-4.unfortunately this is the malady of indian cricket where an individual(sachin) is given more credence than the team/country.i saw the entire 5th days play live on TV, this worthy should have gone in his 40's as he was plumb lbw to swann, then he was dropped twice by cook & prior, once on 70 & then @ 81.he was lucky to reach 91, but the umpire tucker is being abused because he gave him lbw when hawke's eye shows he was right.infact mishra was more assured & batted more confidently than sachin, which naseer, wasim, saurav commented on. sachin is a media creation,he is a flat pitch bully, dravid is india's best ever batsman.a test world eleven should consists of gavaskar, kapil dev, mankad(vinoo),& dravid.

Its very eimple. Fielding team's tactics will be different to a bowling all rounder when he bats and to a regular batsman. They invite all rounders to go after the bowling so as to create chances like the ones they did to Amit Mishra and by this we cannot say that Mishra was playing well than Sachin. Of course, Amit has done his job with the bat if not with the ball and he will get one more chanced of playing a test because of this

Sorry sir, The result was already out when India got follow-on. now atleast there was a chance for him to hit a century. most probably woudl have been the last. Regarding could have been out in the middle stages, i think almost all batsman get fes chances/luck when they score 100 runs. so dont coment on that. That is true Dravid is the one of the best test batsman.

You are very very right. But this will never be relished by Sachin's fans. Although his contribution to World Cup matches was not significant, our crazy fans presented it to him rather to the Nation. Dravid is an unsung hero and for Sachin hero title is thrusted.

Raghunathrao:

a) Jugal and you too are going with the tide like the media. Rahul best coz he scored three centuries. Would you have said the same during SA tour?

b) I'm surprised that you didn't bring out your standard "selfish personal record" tune about Dravid? :)

Once Sachin was scoring but not of late. Dravid has never played for your so called " selfish personal record " In fact he is THE TRUE CRICKETER.

In Rahul Dravid's 15 years career, I think this is the best bowling attack he has ever faced. In my opinion only Sachin, Inzi and Lara had faced qualiy attack otherwise no Ricky, No Haydos, not the Wall and No Kallks

Obviously, you have thought it through with whatever grey matter you have inherited before making such statements correct ?

And obviously, there is no chance that your statements can be brandished as double standard, foolhardy right ?

I mean, surely you are not that stuped right ?
