What happened to the team spirit in 1974? What happened to the Spin Quartet which managed 15 wickets in the series for 1012 runs? Why was the team late at the High Commissioner's dinner, and what actually happened with Sudhir Naik? Wadekar too, like Dhoni had been lucky till he toured England in 1974. It is ironic he likes to call it Team Spirit.

The team arrived late as they had an earlier engagement,a function arranged by the State Bank of India. This does not excuse the late coming. The high commissioner's outburst was also inexcusable, which led to a walkout by the team.

There was no walkout. The High Commissioner closed the door on the Cricket Team. Manager and Captain were allowed inside, while the rest of the team kept waiting in the bus. After about 15 minutes, the rest of them were called in. Of course the High Commissioner behaved like that because the team was badly losing. In fact, a day or so ago, the team had been bundled out for 42, and the morale of the team was at a low ebb. The High Commissioner too, decided to cash in. I don't know what is Team Spirit. When the team wins, they seem to have it, and then suddenly one fine morning, the spirit deserts the team. I guess, when the entire team consumes one brand of Spirit, it is called Team Spirit.

I agree. I think after the 1974 whitewash when the indian team arrived at Santa cruz airport, there were garlanded with chappals right at the dead of night! Unforgetable exhibition of poor cricket that was!
Perhaps one of the better series was when Venkataraghavan led India to England in 1979 and Sunil Gavaskar made that epic 221 at the Oval in the last test chasing an improbable 432 to win. Wah! that was Indians emerging true champions!

We are supposed to play a five day test match and not a 10 over match

I like the batting line up and that's the future: 1. Virender Sehwag (Captain) 2. Gautam Gambhir 3. Cheteshwar Pujara 4. Virat Kohli (Vice Captain) 5. Rohit Sharma / A rajyudu 6. M.S. Dhoni 7. R. Ashwin 8. Piyush Chawala / P Ojha / Rahul Sharma 9. Umesh Yadav / Ishant Sharma 10.Shrikant Wagh / S Sreesanth 11.Sreenath Arvind / Varun Aaron 12.Shrivatsa Goswamy / Manpreeth Goni / Sudeep Tyagi
Would like to throw Parthiv Patel in middle as well.

Obviously Captain has to be Dhoni. What about Rahul Dravid? He needs to be there. Looks he is good for a couple of years too. Suresh Raina too should be persisted.
Batsmen can score huge but to win you need to take 20 wickets and teams that have won in the past had great bowling units.
BCCI Team should take clue and decide a policy that they at all point of time shall play 5 bowlers and find a bowler who bats or batsman who bowls equally well likes of Ian Botham, Kapil Dev, Imran Khan, Jacques Kallis otherwise No.1 dream is over forever now.
History was made at Lord's 37 years back when Ajit Wadekar led India to their biggest ever defeat on English soil in '74 (second biggest in Test history) by an innings and 285 runs.
Incidentally India also slumped to their lowest ever total in a Test innings in that fateful match , getting all out for 42.
The 3 match series was lost as England whitewashed India 3-0
The sorry state and fate of Indian Cricket Team in the ongoing India-England series have proved beyond doubt..... India has made it large, EXTRA LARGE !!!!! Too much of gruelling, back-to-back cricket, including the IPL to spin more money for the greedy BCCI and also the cricketers, the resulting injuries or lack of physical fitness of players have contributed to the downfall. Sachin Tendulkar has proved again that he is like an impotent man, too much of expectations but always failing at the climax... Hope the result of the fourth test does not make the series 4-0 and they manage to make it EXTRA EXTRA LARGE(XXL)!!!!! But the players don't have to worry, they can straight go ahead to concentrate on the ads and commercials!
The Indian team in 60's & 70's was full of Bombay players who were obstructing players from other zones. The parochial feelings still runs as Gavaskar& Shastri the two commentators would never speak a word against aging batsman & his inability to play genuine swing or pace in ongoing series while criticizing every other player

good joke. if BC/SC/ST roles comes in criket what would be the impact lets see... 1. Opening batsman should be SC/ST 2. 1 down to 3 downs should be MBC 3. FC should be in 15th member squard but should not be a 12th man. 4. Opening bowlers should be STST 5. Spiners should be MBC 6. BC should be bowl last over
without any technique and foot work he survived this long only with great hand-eye coordination. but now at age 32, his eyesight is failing and hence he is a dead duck now! he should retire soon, or else he will continue to get out like this on first ball... he definitely can't survive even a single ball now
Cricket Australia (CA) chief James Sutherland said the body previously had "no doubt" about January's Test against Pakistan, when Australia overcame a 206-run innings deficit to record a stirring win.
But Mazhar Majeed, a property developer and players' agent, told Britain's News of the World he earned $1.3 million for rigging the match, where there were a series of dropped catches and suicidal batting by the visitors.
"CA had been in no doubt that Australia had won that game on the merit of their on-field performance and will now wait on evidence from UK and ICC investigations before making any further comment," Sutherland said.
Majeed, 35, was arrested on match-fixing charges in London and later bailed after the newspaper sting caught him being paid some £150,000 to "spot-fix" three no-balls during the fourth Test at Lord's.
During the sting, he revealed details of the alleged Sydney plot, when Australia put on 124 for their last two wickets and Pakistan slumped to 139 all out. Pakistan match fixing allegations: Australia looking into 'tainted' Sydney Test Australian cricket officials have expressed shock at a match-fixing scandal engulfing Pakistan and said they were awaiting evidence that this year's bizarre Sydney Test was rigged. so watch the match with VIGILANT eyes all indians now so as to check sachin throwing wicket as per script of bookies without being caught by any police
