No problem in nominating him for any awards, but is he just a mediocre bowler, but given too much hype given by the media to be compared with the other great fast bowlers. Somewhere I read, he is the second best left arm fast bowler of the modern era after Wasim Akram the great!!!!!!
I have never read or heard any Australian, Westindian, Pakistani or South African fast bowlers who played cricket for at least more than 10 years, but still with an economy rate of more than 32 as "Great"!!!!!
But with this guy, he was termed as "great left arm bowler after Wasim Akram". That stupid who wrote the article, i assume, forgot Chaminda Vaas!!!

lol. He is the leading bowler in world cricket. He is one of the prime reasons, we are No 1 team. Someday indian fans with their batsmen centric view will understand.

@Varun??? I just dont know whether he is the leading bowler in world cricket!!!!
Regarding the No:1 team, we all are seeing how the No:1 team is performing!!!!
Boss, I was just mentioning, there is nothing called as "greatness" in him.
If you call Zaheer Khan a "great bowler", then how you call Akram, Waqar, Ambrose, Walsh, Donald, Pollock, McGrath and Gillespie. You look at the astonishing strike rate and average of these bowlers who played for many years for their countries and you can see their average is just between 20-24 which is staggering!!!!! where as this guy called Zaheer had been playing for India for many years and still his average is around "32", so still you call him a "great bowler". No, he is a just a good bowler. And you see the economy rate of those great bowlers and it is less than 4 where as this guy's economy rate is still around 5!!!!
In a way, when he is being compared with the present low class "pace battery' of India, he can be called "Great".
Again for your information, we should just accept the fact that, if not banned, Mohammed Asif is the best fast bowler right now and Dale steyn as well.

Just because a bowler for a short period of time is the leading bowler in world cricket does not mean that he is a "Great bowler"

@Varun, you should change ur first sentence. he is thte leading bowler in Indian cricket. In terms of class or skill, he is no way near even to the banned pakistani bowlers Mohammed Asif and Mohammed Amir and to Dale Steyn as well.

@ Hari... you mean all the cricket experts around the world are stupid and you are the only intelligent person. Do you know how many years he has been playing for India?

why cant they be no one in ODI too, when he is still playing for india in ODI.
Australia have never lost a series for more then three years after they won a world cup in 1999 But INDIA within six months they gonna b white washed by england side.

Mr.Varun why Cant india become no One team in ODI when still Zaheer is playing for india, that too after winning world cup very shame

Zaheer is not a mediocre bowler!! Come on now! His average of 32 is not good enough I agree but that doesn't mean you include Vaas in consideration. Vaas averaged 30, but his strike rate was 66, it is 58 for Zaheer. For a test bowler the SR is more important than average. Both Vaas and Zaheer are hamstrung by the conditions at home. And yes Zaheer definitely is not in the same league as Akram, but who else is in the current lot. So Zaheer may just be the best left armer pacer since Akram (although lags behind by a fair margin).
Re: Re: Mediocre One
by hari narendran on Aug 11, 2011 02:39 PM
And it is an insult to Akram where he is called as the best "left arm" bowler in world cricket!!!!
He was infact the best fast bowler when u take both the arms as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So the comparison of best left arm or best right arm is stupid
Re: Re: Re: Mediocre One
by Sudeepta Chakraborty on Aug 11, 2011 02:52 PM
Perhaps our definition of potency differ. During the same era, the best fast bowler, I think, was Curtley Ambrose and for a brief spell even Waqar (till 1993, he was almost unplayable). Both were far more intimidating and potent. Akram was the more skillful though. Must be in the top 5 of his era, but you have to consider Donald and McGrath too (Akram was more skillful than them too, I believe). Since the excerpt you mentioned only talks about left armer so Zaheer's name should and did come in. I agree he is not a great fast bowler, but in the current context closest(but just as I said behind by a big margin) in skills to Akram
Re: Re: Mediocre One
by hari narendran on Aug 11, 2011 02:47 PM
@Sudeepta, Agreed.
In fact i was just not commenting on whether Vaas was better than Zaheer, but the term used in a cricinfo article, i.e. the "Great" left arm fast bowler after Akram, which is an insult to the other actual great fast bowlers I meant, irrespective of whether they are right arm or left arm
Re: Re: Mediocre One

Mr. Sudeepta Chakraborty you know how many hatrick has taken by wasim akram dont compare zaheer with wasim akram
Re: Mediocre One
by Ashish Sharma on Aug 11, 2011 03:00 PM
You can't call him stupid, as he expressed his opinion just like you did. Certainly no comparision with Wasim Akram, he was exceptional because of his swing and speed. But yes, Zaheer Khan inspite of lacking that kind of a speed or swing has certainly come a long way, considering the fact that Wasim was supported by other fast bowlers in his team, unlike Zaheer.
Re: Re: Mediocre One
by hari narendran on Aug 11, 2011 03:08 PM
@Ashish, I dont think I called anyone stupid here, the phrase i used was for teh comparison between left arm greats and right arm greats!!!
And again, i accepted the fact that Zaheer has improved.
And to your last sentence, to be a great fast bowler, it is not a must that we should get the support from other end as well. Richard Hadlee and Shane Bond were some exceptions, though Bond retired early!!!

Never think to imagin that india will become Number one team in ODI because first u need to get past south africa and then u have to come near Australia that is no possible
