D. Goel pkl. afternoon 4pm, thursday, April 28, 2011. There is definitely some point in the suggestion that Sri S. Gavaskar makes about The new Coach that BCCI is hiring from abroad some Fletcher. We couldgive upour familiar habit for kowtowing to foreign Coaches.. Mohinder Amarnath is matire indian Cricketer and well versed with indian Cricketer's dispositions, he can strike immediate Rapport with younger Boys as he can share songs and jokes besides solid cricketing skills. BCCI never appoints any coach from indian origin, its wasteage of time to discuss this matter,. but this was the great chance for BCCI to give Life time achievment for Great Jimmy to appoint him Coach.
and as a batsman he was scared of marshall as we saw with dismay that he scored 0-1-0-0-0-0 in six innings of three tests in mid 80s againt west indies.
Amarnath was available three years back also to coach India. Why did SMG recommend Kirsten then instead of Amarnath. This is not belittle the calibre of Amarnath. Maybe SMG is pissed because the board did not bother to consult him in the next coach appointment..

It is said that when SMG was catain of the Indian team he had started a system in which every time anyone in the Indian team won any MOS, MOM or Best Batsman / Bowler cash award, the cash was put into a kitty and distributed among all the players. This went on till Jimmy came back into the team in Pakistan. Jimmy, it is said, refused to participate in any such kitty on the grounds that the cash prize won was his and his alone to enjoy. Jimmy won a whole clutch of such awards in the next two years and he refused to share them. SMG's hold over the team began to ewear thin. It is said that the Kapil - SMG split happened because of this, for Kapil had, till then, won most of the cash awards, and he now felt cheated.
That is probably why when SMG was in the committee 3 yaers ago, he did not try to get Jimmy selected as coach. Now, after the actual selection is made, he comes out with this statement showing what a great human being he actually is.
Jimmy Amarnath may be a great coach, but as manager of the Indian team he would have failed. Not because of any issue with the players, but because the BCCI would not have let him perform. There are these carpetbaggers in the BCCI who would have been constantly trying to undermine him. This they are unable to do if a white man is appointed as manager. At least, even 65 years after gaining independence we still are in awe of the "safed sahebs". Thus it is all for the best ..whatever Mr Gavaskar may say
We don't need Indian coaches like Amarnath, Gaekwad etc. History has shown that these Indian coaches create tensions in the team by indulging in dirty politics. Besides they have nothing to offer. With the exception of Greg Chappel, foreign coaches are professional, focussed and have shown results
No doubt i have great respect for Mr. Amarnath, still i feel we should continue with the trend of having a foreign coach. Let us keep cricket out of regional politics & look for talent & promote it. We have done well in the recent years under the formidable captancy of Dhoni (I rate him one of the best we had. We have talent...we require only a guiding force.
