No thirsty for winning
by shankar mani on Apr 23, 2011 10:32 AM

Now about Match, I am once again disappointed with CSK's poor show by throwing their match away from wining position (at on stage they needed only 46 from 33 balls with six wickets in hand). Careless shot by Dhoni, playing with only 10 members ( I won't consider Morkel, who is good for nothing in this tournament), no thirst for winning attitude shown by Murali Vijay, Anirudha's poor shot selection, pathetic inclusion of Johit Sharma for his own luck by Dhoni without logic, once again nothing to speak about bowling and above all not having hitters like Pollard, Mccullum, Gilchrist, etc…Still I’ve to support this team, what to do? We need to back our home team. I hope they won't finish at bottom side.
We are not asking CSK to win every match, we want them to fight bravely in every match.
Now all the best for teams for showing good performance despite of not looking good on paper like CSK.

Aniruddha Srikanth had done well in the first match against KKR, coming up the batting order. CSK should go for the opening pair of Aniruddha-Murali Vijay henceforth and ask the seasoned Hussey to bat at No.3 to No.6 depending on the match situation. In yesterday's situation, Mr. Cricket could have been the saviour for CSK.

The ball which MSD played to get out was a wide. Had he let it go, one run would have been added, one more ball would have been gained to play against and score and importantly, one wicket might have been postponed.

I think player learn the game, how to bat, how to bowl, tricks of the trade etc. before reaching this level. So it is not the job of the coach to teach them how to play the shots etc. but what the coach needs to do is to bring an ability in the players to discern the match situtation and play accordingly.

Yesterday, starting from Dhoni, batsman after batsman committed suicide. Why the hell should tailenders like Morkel, Joginder Sharma, Ashwin etc. go for shots and get out, when the more capable and well set Badri was always available to guide the team to win if only these naive ones would have just gone for patting the ball or dropping it dead and take quick singles?

As to team selection, why did CSK need off-spinner Ranadiv when they already had Ashwin and Raina? Wouldn't it have been wiser to have Southee instead of Ranadiv? Or, if the pitch was helping spin, why not Jagati, the left armer for variety?

Dhoni battng promotion
by Jay on Apr 23, 2011 07:29 AM

Dhoni promoting himself ahead of regular batsmen has only failed in most of the matches, this is true in ODIs also (with the World Cup final being among exceptions) and in T20, even more frequent. His run-a-ball batting in T20 has cost CSK the previous match, this match, IPL2, and India the previous T20 World cup. The conventional batsmen are either opening the batting or playing innovative strokes and fare better in T20. Dhoni should have come lower down than starting a collapse, the youngsters will do better knowing that their captain has to follow and he will take care if they fail.

The lower order deprived strike to a set batsman.

CSK

This is the true caliber of CSK. Never know how they won the last few years with such a poor team. Only Hussey and Dhoni are regular in their national team. Half regulars are Raina and Bollinger. Rest are not regular for their nation. Regular means certain selection in team of 15 currently or having played substantial international cricket representing the nation in the past - like Gayle, Ghilchrist, Warne for example.

Compare CSK with any other team - they would have at least 5 regulars 3 semi regulars.

And look at Mumbai. Except for satish and raydu all others are top class national players!

CSK does not deserve to win. I suspect they would surely end up at the last this time - at last justice done!

csk is the only team who rely most on their own countrymen and not like the mumbai indians who needed malinga and pollard to save them.Whereas in the case of csk more than hussey there are many indian guys who frequently contribute to teams success.

and not forget that sachin has orange cap. he is leading run scorer. he is not foreging player, he is countrymen. see also rohit sharma, munaf, rayadu. except mallinga pollard had not performed well. only the countrymen take up MI to top of table points.

dont forget master blaster. he is the boss who leads MI. otherwise maling and pollard can not do anything. Only the presence of sachin effect greatly to team MI and team INDIA. you should agree with this.

That is true with MI also. They also have successful domestic players like Rohit Sharma, Rayudu, Satish, Munaf, Harbhajan etc (not talking of Sachin). Everyone can play only 4 overseas players per match. In that context a few overseas players from MI have performed better (like Malinga, Pollard), that does not matter as we always have to look at the team performance.

IPL4 has more balanced teams than previous editions. Only RR is weak, but if we just swap Tait and Malinga, RR also will perform better. Nobody wanted player like Gayle in the auction, now RCB is lucky to get him.

I can see that you are a frustrated fan of a team desperate for victory. Its not calibure that counts baby, but the wins. Chennai lost half of its matches in the last edition before winning the IPL.Just see how they bounce back as usual giving teams of good calibure a run for thier money and fans like you a burning stomach. After all they have King MIDAS as their captain ...lol !

u do not require 11 star players to win matches u jus need a players who play their role to perfection and play as a team...which CSK had last year..they not only won IPL but also went on win Champions league.....and they won it fair and sqaure....its jus that they are not playing to their potential this year and dont deserve to be at the top as of now...but CSk is known to bounce back...
