What did Dhoni do at league level? What did he do in quarter final and in semi final matches? Sachin made a greater contribution to the team before it reached the final. Sachin was not responsible for the tied match against England? He was not responsible for the foolish defeat we suffered against the South Africans. He hit centuries, but the others let down the team. A player cannot be expected to hit centuries in all matches. In the final Sachin made clear his intentions. He made a quickfire 18 off only 14 balls. He was out to a very very good ball bowled at him by Malinga. There is no doubt that Sachin is the best ever batsman in one-day internationals. Ask Dhoni to open the innings and hit 10,000 runs in fewer matches than Tendulkar. For a long time, India had to rely only on Tendulkar to win matches. How much pressure he had! Does Dhoni have such pressures. Today India is gifted with good batsmen and good bowlers. Then where is the pressure for Dhoni? If he captains a team like the one sent to Australia in 1999, we will come to know how 'good' he is. Dhoni can never be compared with Tendulkar who is the greatest one-day player.

No Arguement as such
by Mainbola on Apr 08, 2011 05:10 PM  | Hide replies

There is no argument as such since cricket is a team sport and individuals can't do much.

But the innings Dhoni played is by far the most critcal innings played by any Batsman in the history of Indian Cricket.

Sachin ofcourse is the greatest batsman ever, but he cud never bring the worldcup home in his tenure.

On the other hand, nobody expected Dhoni when he made his debut to go on to such big achievments, but he has brought the world cup home twice.

Certain things are destiny.

Kapils 175 is THE most critical innings in our cricket history, looking at the situation of that match when kapil came to bat and the way he batted with tailenders.

Yes Dhonis innings was very crucial, but he had Ghambhir on other end and also Yuvi, Raina to follow.

sachin did nothing exceptional. it was because of the other 10 players who performed magnificently and won the wc. it was because of the fantastic youngistan team and fantastic captain cool dhoni that sachin at last could be a part of wc winning team. previous teams were unable to won with this dead weight. but dhoni's youngistan is so good that even with 10 players in a game of 11 players they won the wc.

They want to give credit only to Sachin. But thats not true.
Infact Sachin never scored a century in any knockout WC Game in his 6 WCs.
So thats it. Sachin is good so his teammates.

U can not evaluate his performance with century only.He scored crucial runs also.Yes i alos admit its a team game not individual.Even in test macth a batsman who score 0 but face 2 or 3 balls at crucial moment to save or win the match,he is also a hero.

SRT scored his first century after about 80 matches. He got a chance as an opener.

Till then he was batting at No. 4 or 5, where Dhoni bats now.
See Dhoni-7 Centuries. If Dhoni comes as an opener, he will score 200 Centuries.

But still Dhoni at 6000 career runs has greater average and strike rate than your Gattu

suppandi what has debut age got to do with it?

you want to say it was wrong that sachin got the break when he did.

do you want to say that sachin should have been given the debut at a later age? so that he could have scored many centuries in his first 70 odd odis when he batted down the order?

you want to say that he was given debut at 16 years and that is why he was not able to score 100s in his first 70 odd odis when he did not open the innings?

that is why sachin got so many centuries. if he had batted down the order all these 20 years he would not have scored so many centuries or runs...

everybody knows what dhoni is capable of if he comes up the order. the stats are there for everybody to see. his record up order is simply fantastic and much better than many batsmen of that particular position. dhoni's ability and talent is simply wasted at no. 6 or 7. that is why even ganguly asks him to come up the batting order more often than he acutally does....
