Having watched and studied Greg Chappell's coaching methods here in Australia,it would not be an exaggeration to state that he is not universally liked. He has that school masterish approach which brooks no argument.Taking this approach to India while dealing with senior players, who need to be encouraged and motivated to go higher, was not the right tactics. One doesn't order around a guy like Tendulkar who has nothing more to achieve in cricket!Chappell prefers youngsters in his team because he can be authoratative with them. While he has good ideas and a progressive vision, his interpersonal skills need improvement.Kirsten touched the right chords in the Indian team and made team members feel comfortable. He gained their trust and the players in turn did not want to let him down!Of course people like Ganguly,Zaheer,Yuvraj and Harbhajan were an anthema to Chappell because they did not venture out of their comfort zone and strive harder! All of them looked overweight and unfit. When they were dropped from the team, they were shocked into improving their fitness and motivation to return back into the team.So there were pluses and minuses during Chappell's tenure!

Chappel was making seniors work hard ..thats why they hated him and spread rumours of dividing the team.

F O...Chappell had an attitude problem on the contrary! He wanted only timid, spineless, shameless guys like Dravid whom he could flog around! If he had stayed longer, Jammy might have ended up doing Chappell's personal errands even!
what bayliss has said is absolutely correct. we have a lot of things to thank greg chappell for. if it is youngistan india who is holding centrestage it is all because of greg and his initiatives. if he was not there god knows when the young generation players would have got so much chance to play international cricket. people blame him for india's performance 2007 wc. but he did what he thought was best for the indian team. maybe he was wrong but most certainly he did not do that deliberately. and if we got knocked out of 2007 wc early sachin was responsible for it in no less measure. sachin was an ABSOLUTE disaster in that world cup. if others failed it does not mean that sachin succeeded. he is equally to be blamed for his dismal showing.
it was greg because of whom players like raina, irfan pathan, dhoni etc. came into prominence. his master stroke of sending players at no. 3 made a very big difference. people blame him for destroying irfan pathan's career but they forget that it was because of greg that pathan's allround qualities were seen in the first place. otherwise people may have looked upon irfan as just another batsman. greg was a person who could recognise talent when he saw it. his predictions about irfan pathan, raina dhoni etc. were spot on. it was because of greg that irfan pathan became such a big name. raina who impressed greg so much is now at last recognised by many fans who previously could not.

more has revealed in an interview how greg chappell had spotted dhoni's talent even then and had predicted even at that time that dhoni would be captain of indian cricket team within 6 months.
Chapell is the one who had spoiled the cricket team in 2007 or esle at least or team should have gone to semis.Destroyed irfan pathan from bowler to nowhere.Helped the team to exit from 2007 before second round itself.Destroyed team's unity and belief.Probably he might have felt that indians might be competeitors to Aussies in 2007 so he indirectly helped them. If somebody says wright and Gary were good coaches we can accept readily but not that demon Chapell who destroyed team's unity and made it exit early by helping aussies.
