1. Mamta Didi has asked for a National Holiday to celebrate India's win.. Is it reqd to get a national holiday when the match is played on a saturday and next day is a holiday ????

2. Does she know how much revenue loss it will be if its declared as a national holiday ???

3.Is there any country which declares a Nartional Holiday after watching the match for entire day ???? Ok, agreed that recently Malaysia declared a national

holiday after it won the football match agnst Indonesia . But a football match is played for 90 minutes and that match was also played in National Games.

Adding to that , is India economically more super to Malaysia ??

4. Why did n't Mamta Didi asked for a National Holiday when Abhinav Bindra won the first individual Gold medal for the country ???

5. Being a woman ,has ever Soniaji/Mamtaji applauded the performance of Mary Kom who is a 5 times world boxing champion ?????

6. How many print/electronic media covered the news that Paes/Bhupathi won the Miami masters tennis on saturday and now they are world no.1 in doubles tennis

????

7. Many people are now demanding Bharat Ratna for Sachin. Agreed, he desrves it if at all it's given for achievement in sports ????
But then why it has not been given Major Dhyanchand yet ?????? What was his fault/crime/lesser achievemnt for not deserving that ????

8. With this kind of coverage/attention by print/electronic media and the pouring of money , do you think any kid will take a hockey stick in his hand ???

9. Can any one tell me why Hockey is still our national game and why we have not changed it to cricket when so much of attention is for cricket ?????

10. The headline is today's 'Times of India' is that ' India have conquered the world' ....really ???????
How many medals we are winning in Olympics ????
Do we think we have achieved the pinnacle in sports after winning the world cup cricket when cricket is not played by countries like

china,USA,russia, germany and played by only hadful countries ?????
( i'm pretty sure it will take china only 10 years to be the world no.1 in cricket the day they seriously consider it as a sports ).

10. Was it a lesser achievement by Ashish Kumar who won the first idividual medal in gymnastics in Asiad for india , competing with athletes from china, japan, uzbekistan, kazaksthan ?????? But why the media coverage was not the same compared to this world cup celebration ????????

Finally , who are the most beneficiary from this world cup win ???? THE POLITICIANS who are involved in scams...coz they will not be in news for atleast a week

I have to tell you this and this is coming from a sportsman of an Olympic discipline. I do agree with your intent but not the way it should be seen. In my view, Cricket has achieved so much because of its own heroes owing to the 1983 team, Sachin, Kumble, Ganguly, Laxman, Dravid. The 1983 team created the "Dhamaka" that was required to draw public attention. When we stepped up and took notice, there were some great and consistent players that stood up to the expectations. Though it took a long time to give us a world Cup win, we were always in contention thanks to all the great players India has produced.

As for other sports, we did follow.. Marycom was such a hype during the commonwealth games and we wanted this star to win. What did she do? She let down the nation's expectations by slipping the Gold Medal. Abhinav Bindra did the same and Sadly Abhinav Bindra has failed to capitalize on the Buzz he created. He hardly reached out to public. All we herd was his overrated plans of 500 sports schools and his fathers rewards for his son. The champ does not even shoot near his olympic scores these days. Another example of Hockey, Vijender's performance in Commonwealth, Rathore's inconsistency, pathetic performance of Indian swimmers, etc. A lot has to do with the federations and the administrators running them. They lack the vision or the hunger to grow their own sport.

we are not getting anything. these people are making crores by beating tired and low morale teams like australia and paki. they cannot beat england and south africa. even srilanka players are not strong. only in india cricket is getting so much attention thats why players are playing well. other countries are just playing for timepass. so naturally india will win. nothing great. india should play in otherworld sports like footbal tennis and then open mouth

India won because Tendulkar didn't make a century
by Abe Oye on Apr 03, 2011 07:32 AM  | Hide replies

The moment Tendulkar was out for cheap, I knew India will win the cup. His centuries are jinxed... I hope he finishes is 100 100s and then 50 ODI centuries, and then quits. What more can be contribute to the team?

Well done Indian cricket team,
the legendary skipper Dhoni,
the ever green Tendulkar,
Power house of talent and committment Yuvraj,
dare devil Sehwag,
ever dependable Zaheer,
hard working Bhajji,
Dedicated Raina and Kohli,
silent performers like Munaf,Gambhir,Ashwin,etc

we are proud of you all..

It is a dream. It really happens once in a life time for cricketers or only on few ocassions in a life time of the fans...

Now the Kapil Paaji's folklore will have a new counter-part,the visionary, shrewed, intelligent, street smart Dhoni who ensure a win which looked so easy at the end due to his cool and brave leadership...

Well apart from cricket,we also need to promote olympic sports including Atheletics, football, etc so that our rural and tribal population also gets the opportunity to bring laurel for the country.

Cricket is played only by 12-15 nations and it is good to emerge champion among them. However,it is important that we emerge as a super power in the global sporting scenario for this a good medal haul at 2012 London olympics will be very crucial.

We also hope that Indian football team also progresses beyond first or second round in world cup qualifiers and gets a berth in the final events.

We hope,Indian government, fans and corporates will come forward to promote and support all sports including cricket.

Wankhede stadium has gone to the history books on 2nd April night, generations of cricket fans and Indians will cherish it ...

>> Crap....don`t compare what kapil did in 1983 with Dhoni...1983 win was the best and will remain the greatest.

World cup happiness
by Ajay on Apr 03, 2011 04:18 AM

This World cup played a great role in my life and I guess other Indians. We will remember and cherish for several years to come that India has at last won the world cup (after 28 years). I started following cricket from 1987 - Benson & Hedges cup (RS MOM). But Indian team could not be trusted to consistently win for a long time since. They showed great promise in the last couple of years. Our batting line up started becoming the strongest.
The WC brought great cricketing nations together. India-Pak match for example had great memories not just who won/loss, but it brought two nations slightly closer. Dhoni, having not performed for a long time came back very strongly. He played a captain's knock. Indian batsman proved today that Sachin and Sehwag do not complete the list of batsmen in the team. Yuvraj the man of the tournament. He has learnt an unique art to be consistent both with bat and ball. Sachin - Sir, India is proud to have you and your name will remain till India and cricket remain. As Virat Kohli commented - 'Sachin has been lifting India's burden for the last 21 years, it is time that we lift him'. I loved Sangakkara's comments after the game - gracious, great gentleman. Tough luck M.Jayawardane, but you have done a great job - scoring much needed century for your team in the final - the feet that Indian batsmen came close, but couldn't. Let us not forget the key role played by Gambhir and Virat did when we lost 2 wickets.
