In case of other games/countries the problem has been addressed to a substantial extent by legalissing betting, so that any major betting coups can be tracked. Of course nobody can do anything about illegal betting. But the unofficial market leaves its trace ont eh official market due to the movement on odds, when a party to the unofficial market tries to cover up its exposure in the official market. The moment the chances of being caught severly punished increase, the thing tends to fall in place.

Definition of spot fixing
by trishul on Sep 04, 2010 07:54 PM  | Hide replies

As per Wilikipedia Spot-fixing is more difficult to detect than match fixing or point shaving. Spot-fixing is most associated with the betting markets of the Indian subcontinent where bets can be placed on individual deliveries in a cricket match

What is Indian in this

The centre of illegal betting in International cricket lies in Mumbai, near the HQ of BCCI.

RAHUL DRAVID the great legend of HINDUSTAN Cricket
by Soorya Mangalore on Sep 04, 2010 07:12 PM  | Hide replies

Rahul Dravid the very talented batsman from KARNATAKA is one of the great legend of INDIAN cricket like KAPIL DEV, SACHIN TENDULKAR, SAURAV GANGULY etc..One of the outstanding batsman in our cricket team. The BCCI has to take out its selfishness and give him chance to play for 2011 World cup. We can't send dhoni alone. He will spoil HINDUSTAN's name. Their should be seniors like RAHUL DRAVID, SACHIN TENDULKAR in the squad inorder to control the team.

Because this is the only game played in India which is watched by people. People consider cricket a religion and worship cricketer the God.

Every MNC consumer company and Corporate house uses cricket to sell their products, and every politician want to manage cricket. And every newspaper put Cricket as the most important news item on its front page, proving that India can not live without a daily dose of cricket.

by Sonia Sing on Sep 04, 2010 07:06 PM  | Hide replies

Mr. Dravid, how can you say so, when the current ICC president is an epitome of sleaze, corruption, scandle in cricket related activities in India.

PCB would never have any respect for ICC so long its president is tainted and has no reputation for being clean. Also, with such person at its helm, ICC would only suceed in eroding its authority.

1996 as well as 2003 world cup teams had a good set of players why sachin could not win the world cup then? i definitely believe that he is extending his career just for the money involved in commercials and ipl etc. i also dont believe that he deserves group captain given by indian air force.

In 1996 WC India had a good squad? LOLzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, can you name me those good players? Who were they? Siddhu? Prabhakar? Kambli? Or those 2 match fixers Jadeja and Azhar? Or that another match fixer Mongia? We reached the semis where we lost to Sri Lanka, where no other batsman other than Sachin scored anything. Let's blame Sachin for that defeat. After all why did he score 70 odd runs, he too should have failed just like the rest of his team mates, that would have been better, isn't it? I mean how dare he score some runs in that semi final in Eden Gardens. it dosn't matter if the rest of his team mates didn't cross single digits, he should have single handedly won it, LOL.

2003 WC - we reached the finals solely because of him. And then our bowlers leaked more than 350 runs in the Finals, let's blame it on him. After all why couldn't he bowl and restrict the Aussies under 200, isn't it?

He is extending his career? He is slapping his shameless critics with his bat in every series. He averages more than 70 odd in test cricket this year. There is no one apart from Sehwag who can lay claim to be better than him in this team.

But alas, how can a f.o.o.l with the brains of a bird can understand these simple facts.

No, he didn't fail miserably. he averaged more than 44 odd in that WC. And why couldn't Dravid help India win the 1999 WC? He was the highest run getter, yet India didn't even reach the semis, whereas when Tendulkar was the highest run getter both in the 1996 and the 2003 WC, India reached the semis in one and the finals in the other. Why couldn't Dravid win the 1999 WC despite being the highest run getter? Let's just assume he played for himself without caring for his team, that's why India didn't even reach the semis, isn't it?

By the way, Sachin's father died after the 1st match that India played in the 1999 WC. He has genuine reasons for having a disappointing WC that year.

2003 final was not just because of Sachin.

Check how Dravid played and kept wickets in 2003.

What about 2007? How badly Sachin failed.

How well Dravid kept wickets? LOLZZZZZZZ, first time I'm hearing a wicket keeper's role behind the stumps being a reason for a successful WC campaign. Every wicket keeper is supposed to do his duty behind the stumps. Dravid didn't do any favor by doing a decent job behind the stumps in that WC campaign.

By the way, in the 2003 WC, Dravid scored just 318 runs (compared to Sachin's 600 runs) in 10 innings, at a magnificent strike rate of 64.11
