India with a depleted squad drew series abroad in Lanka, with a great win in the final test. Earlier this year, they had a harbhajan inspired victory in the calcutta test as well. The absence of top players have affected in the t20s and odis this year, but in test, ie the purest form of the game, they have shown that they are undisputed no1, with the worlds best line up.And Aussies have no idea of playing spin and Ponting averages 20 in India, despite hammering hundreds against (mostly) eng,WI and NZ. Perfect oppurtunity for India to continue their dominance over Aussies since 2001(since 2008 was lost due to umpiring), and maintain their No1 ranking as well. Plus those new names in the aussie list wont strike any fear in the hearts of bhajji,yuvi and co!!!
