Dhoni, don't you need to be rested?
by Gopi on Oct 08, 2010 12:20 PM

After your marriage, your wicket-keeping refluxes are very poor, your batting is below average. The recent win was not due to any exceptional captaincy. We got lucky that Laxman played without going into a shell and Ishant played with character. You must now take some rest and come back when you are done over with the honeymoon. It looks like you didn't have enough honeymoon.

For The Love Of The Game 2

I find that those who support Sachin do so without want or reason. Despite the bare facts being right before their eyes. Almost akin to blind faith. No doubt, Sachin is a great batsman - but the big question is - is he the greatest?

Those who watched the recent test match know that his LBW was plumb - yet blind faith will dictate that he got out to a bad decision. It is a sad testimony to our mentality that we refuse to call a spade a spade.

In this country, every cricket fan believes that he or she is an expert - a reality we have to live with. Truth is, people choose not to look at the flaws.

I recall an incident when Dravid was captain, and declared when Sachin was on 194 during a test. Dravid clearly put the team above a player's record. But the whole country, including the media, lambasted him for making that decision. That does not surprise me. What does is, the way Sachin reacted. He was clearly upset with Dravid for having denied him a double. Does this in Sachin seem honourable? The Sachin Pandits will certainly seem to think so.

Sachin is like any other player. He is human - and is capable of wanting to play for very personal reasons. Equating him to the status of a God is not right. For he is no God.

This reality won't dawn until the veil of deceit is lifted from their eyes. I hope that Sachin's fans wake up to the facts soon.

Lastly, I believe knowledge is relative. Who knows what who knows.

laxman is best player. but he didnt get the name. people dont expect him, he will win the matches but he wins the matches often. but for sachin, people always expects from sachin, he will win matches easily. most of times sachin won the matches easily single handed. sometimes he fails, bad people indian, they forgot the wins of sachin, they only remember sachin failures.

Then don't call him the greatest. And don't call him a God! Treat him, like every other cricketer.

If you are the greatest, you have to deal with the criticism. If you are a God, you are expected to perform like one.

If you're hyping someone up, make sure that they are deserving of that status.

Laxman oh Laxman
by Moderate Voice on Oct 08, 2010 12:32 AM  | Hide replies

After reading all posts below, I think
1. Laxman deserved Padma award ahead of Sania
2. Laxman has been playing with the sword around his neck for 8 years. 60% of the times India has one because of a very special knock by VVS.
3. Laxman is our trump card and grossly underrated.

I think BCCI has an anti-South and pro-minority campaign for the last 2 decades else Azhar would not have played as much as he did.

Laxman is a genius, a real man and a solid player.

If Burkkha Dirt can get Padma Shri, Laxman deserves Bharat Ratna 10 times.

Where is Padma Shri for Laxman ?
by kaushik on Oct 07, 2010 06:32 PM  | Hide replies

Laxman is such an under rated player. He is probably the most useful player in the team as he always performs under pressure.
His average in second innings is above 50 which only 8 batsman in the world have.
Sehwag's second average is 30 and Sachin and Dravid's average is in 40s.
His overall average is 48 and scored many match winning innings like 281 against Australia, 167 at Sydney, 103 * against Sri Lanka and many more.
He has scored 7500 runs which very few batsman have and always had to play with tail enders or when the field is spread out or when wickets have fallen which meant he cant play attacking shots.
He has been a fantastic role model and well behaved on and off the field.
Despite all this, he never got Padma Shri which even losers like Akshay Kumar have got.
Dhoni got the award by playing in stupid T20s with his labor batting technique. But he and Bhajji didnt even bother to collect it.
This is how we treat great talent in our country.

Very funny to relate your justification to PadmaSri.

When Sania Mirza can get a Padma award for nothing, Laxman should have gotten Padma for what he has done.

But frankly Padma awards lost its glory. So, don't relate awards with performance

VVS definitely deserves Padmasri but BCCI never recommended his name. BCCI never thought he deserves it. Whenever their is talk of player to be dropped, it was always VVS name. He played last 4 years with the sword hanging on his head if he doesn't play well he would be dropped. Though the awards have lost glory, I still like to see VVS gets it.

What is the big deal?
by Azzrooddin on Oct 07, 2010 06:17 PM

Australia is fourth or fifth in ranking, most of the cricket boards are run by bookies since many years, whole bunch of pakistani, S. African, English players are in regular contact with bookies along with officials. Cricket is most corrupt sport. World cups are the biggest farce.

This win is a " almost lost "
by chirag foryou on Oct 07, 2010 06:00 PM  | Hide replies

Don't forget, this win is a almost lost. It was laxman who save us. Every time this type of dramatic or heroic win is not possible.
India has to think for own weakness and should come stronger in second test. Aussies will try there best to level series.

1)Please don't allow any injured player to play
2)Dhoni has to perform in second test
3)Please don't allow Mvijay to play
4)Hope dhoni wins toss and a match.

Cheers

1) laxman got injured during the match. Players have to undergo a fitness test before the match and those that fail aren't allowed to play. this has been the standard feature so far
2) its not like Dhobi doesn't want to perform right ? you guys seem to forget that the opposition team is doing its best to get the players out. You just need 1 good delivery or make 1 mistake to get out right ? While i don't like Dhobi, i certainly don't subscribe to your theory that the players have an option of non-performance
3) Mvijay might play since the vacancy is for an opener and not a middle order batsman
4)it doesn't matter if dhobi wins the toss, winning the match however does matter
