Dhoni as batsman
by malapaka seshasai on Jan 13, 2011 05:26 PM

Dhoni may not have proper foot work but has the ability to put his strong bat between the ball and the wicket, thus it crosses the border fast. Cricket is game of uncertainity and so one should certainly have the luck and Dhoni has it in plenty. Look at the result in favour of India and vote.

Was 175 by Kapil was really so important.
by ANIL SINGH on Dec 30, 2010 02:18 PM  | Hide replies

Ind had 8 points, Aus 8 and Zim 4. WI was thru with 16.
Case 1 : AUS bt WI (highly unlikely) and ZIM bt IND. Still IND could have beaten AUS with margin of 100 runs and qualified. But considering way WI was going it was not possible.
Case 2: WI bt AUS and ZIM bt IND. point tally AUS, IND and ZIM tied at 8 points each. So last match between IND and AUS was real qualifier. ZIM virtually out as their NRR was to low.
Case 3: IND bt ZIM and WI bt AUS : Ind move to 12 points and AUS on 8 point. AUS being at better NRR if wins by 1 run would have qualified.

Hence Kapil's 175 made no difference to Ind fortunes as far as tournament was considered.

Probably gave some belief in themselve.

Today people talk about sachin 100 not helping india but 175 is considered so great in 60 overs.

Good logical point but to understand the importance of Kapil's 175 need more than logic. It was the truimph of underdogs in that world cup that was so significant in that world cup and one and only game changer was self-belief and stretching your limits.

Indian team is way to strong in last few world cups, however, we lost. Cricket, and for that matter any game is played and won in the mind.

Better strategy and more importantly, playing by cool head what makes champions. This is primarily, the biggest change Dhoni, brought to the side.

I consider that innings of Kapildev as one of the most heroic. At the ebginning of the match I was watching the match. When India had to answer a tall score, I didn't believe and left the TV. After some time out of curiosity I switched on, alas, I have missed the greatest innings by Kapil, I consider him the all time great all rounder with natural and agressive shots.
Save Viru and to some extent Gambhir, none else has the calibre in today's team. Kapil I salute you for the unassailable feat you created in getting the cup. Can we hope Dhoni to do something?

absolutely good.for his standard his average at any time on any analysis should not be less than 45 to 50 which will augur well for him as an excellent test captain tp prove critics wrong.

Not bad at all!
by Sudarsan on Nov 22, 2010 04:42 AM

His stats as captain is very good. I thought it would be worser than that. Averages 51 as captain, and averages 47.46 in India's victories. Not bad at all. And his record as captain in our wins (12 wins out of 20 games) is incredible. Sometimes he gets too much brickbats. Cut him some slack! He is like the glue that binds the team together. No worry if he doesnt score much. When the seniors retire, he will naturally take up responsibility. Right now, the seniors are taking us forward really well.

This guy took the position when Dravid resigned, tendulkar available but...(already proven as not a great captian), ganguly retiring mood, laxman not as great as now.... cant be in one day.... Indian cricket depended on him, he took the captaincy, he has been delivering the best!!! not the best of the best but great enough to be praised by all of us.
