they were taking about ashes 6months ago as if that was only cricket game. yes it is an important series for Aus considering the history but you can't neglect current series. probably they will lose ashes as well because of overreaction and not concentrating the task at the moment. It seems like there is learning lesson for everyone.
Don't worry about what you have to do in 6 months time but think of what is important now.

Whatever their plight, never write off the Aussies. They fight to the end and the upcoming Ashes should be interesting. England however stands a little ahead chance. Australia will look to the great Ponting to lead the way and their bowling depends on how Bollinger and Johnson along with Hilfenhous bowl and keep the Poms on the leash.
It is clear however that the Aussies complete dominance is over and they are like any other team now. But unlike the Windies they have the resources and the structure to keep producing great players, may be in another five years or so they will produce their next set of great players.

Australia demise frm the top position and their further downfall is because of their own supremacy. Many career could not even star since the the Mcgrath, warnes, haden, damien martyn, gilchrists were so great and because of their fixed places in the teams, the bench strength could not see the light of the day, the most prominent exampple is Stuart Mcgill. he had to wait all his to get into the team but warne was doing his job exceedingly much to his dismay. Stuart played one full yr when warne was banned for taking bannd drugs.
a sudden void created after the retirement of the world beaters will most definetly have it effect in the team.
Aussie Cricket admin should have realized that the above greats will hang their boots one day or the other and they should have nuture the talent and made sure that they are ready to taken over the mantle. But unfortunately the admin became complacent and now aussies are facing a tough task.
they will come out of this situation but its going to take a long long time. Michael Clarke-started his career with a bang but then there was a dip in his form and since then he has not been able to deliver the good on a consistent basis. he will not be able to match the talent of Ricky Ponting.

This Ashes series will be crucial, if his team loses, then he may well hang up his captaincy cap. As a player, i feel he may go on for a couple of years.
He made 10 runs...otherwise Aus would have lost by bigger margin!!!! Guys...now you know what Ponting can do without..Hayden, Gilchrist, McGrath, warne...and we used to think it was great captaincy!!! (This is what happended to SRT as well....however great SRT is, he can not win matches for India all alone while carrying at least 3 to 4 passengers in the team all the time...its a team geame) It was easy for Ponting all these years to play with / around with other greats but he can not do much on his own all the time!!!
