I do not oppose UDRS technology being introduced but the two reviews per innings implementation of it is utter rubbish. It makes the game more highly unfair even more than umpiring errors do.
Though i do not agree with the WARRANTY thing of Dhoni.
So in it's current state i, too, oppose it.

ohh come on dhoni....
We could have won the Infamous Sydny test match in 2008 and could have beaten Aussies on their Home soil if UDRS would have used at that time

Dhoni is talking rubbish

Dhoni is saying that being professionals, umpires are not expected to make mistakes. By the same token, cricketers are professionals, they are not supposed to drop catches, miss stumping chances etc. etc.But they do as whether it is an umpire or player, they are human and make mistakes. So electronics and digital technology comes in to reduce the instances of mistakes. It can not totally eliminate it. BTW Sachin is saying that UDRS should be introduced only when or if it is a foolproof system. For that to occur I will have to wait for hair to grow on my palm. By then even Sachin would have retired!

yeah ?. So why spend all the money to have another umpire as faulty as the ones it is supposed to replace ?. Why not just use the existing system till the tech matures.

Vasu is spot on, there is no such thing as cent per cent in life, not even with life jackets, parachutes whatever. So Dhoni should spouting nonsense and ICC should make UDRS mandatory.

simple way to resolve this . every LBW / Runout should be reviewed by URDS.

Actually LBW is the most controversial when it comes to UDRS.

how does that resolve this problem? What Dhoni says is that the technology is not accurate. It is as good as a "bad umpire".
Do you want to replace one bad human umpire with another bad machine umpire?????

One thing notable over all this talk of not having the UDRS by various players stating that it is not 100% foolproof, is that nobody knows how it is supposed to be foolproof! Everyone is just saying its not 100% foolproof! How ignorant! Let's not forget that technology has been introduced to 'reduce' and not 'eliminate' human error which means that no technology is perfect! It cannot however be a justification for not using the system just because it doesn't give 100% results! How stupid! As I see it, for example, if the umpires are delivering 60% accuracy, technology will deliver 98% accuracy! So? Shouldn't we have it? If you ask me, ofcourse! In fact that is why technology was introduced in the first place! Otherwse, let's go back to the old systems of living with the on-field umpires with 60% results!

Technology is not accurate, so we had the Mangalore crash...

But I still see all Indian players flying to various countries to play matches rather than walking there... ;-)

take out mobile from your hand, its that context he talked about to make it simple for dump guys like you to understand, but you are really more dumber than he thought.

Let me give example - is catch taken cleanly??? if camera used is capable of 1000 frames per second, umpire will be able to make out clearly, but if sponsors use camera which do not go beyond 30/60 frames per second, decision want be correct if. so thats the point he is talking about. if use technology, than use fully supported rather than for the names sake.

The context part is fine but the analogy drawn is poor. Life jacket is not the approriate example, cuase it kinds sounds funny when some one would sell me a life jacket with a warranty saying dont worry u have a warranty even if it fails.

The team is still stuck in the bad experience of using the UDRS poorly in srilanka in 2009. In a single day of a test match each team can use the UDRS only thrice and what happened in 2009 was that we got over excited with the option of a UDRS and used it at the instances where the decision was obvious and the lankans used it smartly and got the revert important decisions.

It looks like the team is kind of haunted by that experience and hence do not want to try this out.

I think we have too many 'smart' people around here... The whole point about this reluctance to use UDRS is that the technology behind the system is not 100% accurate. The predictions made by UDRS is not correct always. When everyone in the world seeing through human eyes feel that that ball would have missed the leg stump, hawkeye "predicts" that it would have hit middle & leg.. Thats ridiculous. Are you saying we should replace one bad human umpire with another bad machine umpire... Nonsense, isn't it?

And... what if coast guard saved him after the jacket failed... He can still get back his money [only if it has WARRANTY]

watched last night match between Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd Umpire decision was utter lamer. poor AB de, given out even he made his ground in time. its sorta wasting money & time.

personally i feel it will spoil the sport spirit, and why not replacing umpires to decide the wide/noballs and use the technology!
even football they are willing to insert goal line technology, but FIFA is not agreed, coz spirit of game will be gone,

Warantee
by plain on Nov 03, 2010 04:39 PM

A man goes to Goa, he does not know how to swim. So he buys a life jacket, he says I am not going to buy a life jacket which does not come with a warranty. So he searches for the same. He finds one, wears the jacket, keeps the warranty card in his jacket pocket and goes out to sea. Unexpectedly a big big wave comes and he is drowned.
Next morning the fisherman find his body, in his pocket they also find a warranty card. RIP.
