Good excuse for tamilians
by sreenivasulu reddy on May 07, 2010 01:37 AM

Everyone knows Vijay and Karthik are not quality players. They are going to open the innnings again in the next match. Ofcourse they will get out early. They can use the report as an excuse. They can say that opposition bowled too fast and pitch is helping the fast bowlers. Good excuse for Srikanth so that he can select them for other series also

Northies and Bengalurus prayers for tomorrow's India match....
by C W on May 06, 2010 05:21 PM

Murli Vijay should get out early!

... because when a chennai guy hits 6's and 4's, they feel like jumping from a tall building.

Good Indian's and Chennai's prayers ...
India should win tomorrow and Murli Vijay should contribute India's win no matter in batting or fielding.

West Indies cannot host big tournaments
by Shyam Sharma on May 06, 2010 01:40 PM  | Hide replies

Its pity to see T20 WC being held in West Indies. After the woeful expirence of 2007 ODI WC ICC should had learnt from their mistake that it was not wise to hold any major tournaments in West Indies. Very little crowd, no enthuisiasm, low scoring pitches, Not many matches under lights, no cheer leaders, no close contests, interuptive weather, poor ground facilities have made this tournament quite dull. Also the format of the tournament is to be blamed. Group E and F were almost fixed irrespective of the team winning or losing. IPL was much more entertaining than this irrespective of the controversies revolving around it.

But cheer leaders more hot than IPL cheer leaders in T20 WC.There is more extravagance if you enjoy the cricket in WI on ground

Elite eight?
by VASUDEVAN V on May 06, 2010 12:59 PM  | Hide replies

The heading says, `hard hitting elite eight...'. The fact is, only eight nations are playing cricket seriously (the ninth nation, Bangladesh, being the woodenspooners). West Indies, for all practical purposes, is in terminal decline. So, to call it `elite eight' is laugable. In fact, to call it even `World Cup' is ridiculous. In effect, cricket is an eight-nation game and all records are also only 8-nation records and not world records as we love to say it!

Moreover the countries which play cricket are slave countries of England. No other developed country shows interest in this game. Cricket is also not a popular sport in Eng, NZ, Aus, SA nowadays. Cricket had now reduced to slaves game.

LOL.. 1.2 billion indians are crazy about cricket. And i think less than 1 million follow soccer. And dont forget IPL is richer than the other football leagues, that too in 3 years. Just wait for 3 years, with 2020 cricket will be the worlds most popular game. Football is boring, as all it involves is putting a ball in goal, while cricket has so many subplots within a match. And new shots being invented each day: dilscoop, ramp shot etc. You can watch your 0-0 draws in football, while we see some frantic action in the world of 2020 cricket. Give me a pathan six or a mcullum ramp shot any day

Less than 1 million follow soccer? That is a good joke! One million is equal to 10 lacs and in West Bengal alone more than 1 million are ardent followers of the game. Cricket may be watched by 1.2 billion INDIANS, but it is not a global game. It is just an eight-nation game. The only reason cricket is seen by so many is because we do not have any population control measures and we are the second largest in terms of population. I have never seen China claim any greatness in terms of population, they claim greatness only in terms of achievement. Football, Tennis etc. are real global games watched and played all over the world. And there is no duckworth-lewis rule in football to decide a 20 over match in 6 overs - a real ripper indeed!

Ohhh Yeah ! How can "Slaves" appreciate a game to followed by their "Masters"? Cricket is not popular with Englisg, French and Americans. What good is it even if it has following of more than 90 million people (Most Indians included). Lilz

Mr.Kim George: Get your facts right. Remember, India does not even qualify at the Asian level in football. Some of the leading teams from Europe and Latin America even fail to qualify for the World Cup. You can have an elite eight in football because all the nations in the world play the game. The question is, how can there be elite eight when only eight nations play the game of cricket? In rugby they have six nation cup. Similarly, cricket is an eight-nation game, whether you accept it or not!

Mr. Vasudevan,

If other nations apart from the 8 already playing cricket, are not interested in playing the game, then whose fault is it? Certainly not the cricket playing countries'. If other countries don't play cricket then it is for them to lose out on something spectacular. Perhaps they need to open up a little bit than kicking the football around and embracing other sports as well! At least in India we still try to play football, but those countries don't even do it! Now, please don't say it is because cricket's a stupid game, boring blah blah blah...coz that is a very subjective opinion. The fact is both games are wonderful games. One reason why rest of Europe don't play is because most of them hate Brits. America has never seen beyond it's boundaries. For them, the term "world" is a synonym to "USA"

same is true with dhobi batting.
He has hardly won an international match against quality side.
He score in one match & then flops in next 10 matches. Any captain is as good as his team & hence he has to justify his position in team by batting/WKeeeping & not by captaincy tag hype given by media.
