raina
by Abhi on May 03, 2010 09:17 PM  | Hide replies

can raina maintain this kind of batting in all kinds of pitches in the next 5 yrs is the thing to watch
india has had only ganguly as truly a proper lefty batsman, gambhir nd yuvi r following him
now raina has joined that club. how far he goes
depends on him temperament
if we compare 23 yr old raina with 23 yr old ganguly, then ganguly was more of a test batsman in those days nd raina a brutal t20 batsman

we cannot compare players of yesteryears like sachin, dravid and ganguly with gambhir, raina rohit and jadeja. The younger crop are agressive as the game these days is bang bang. In 80s when gavaskar , vishy and vengy were heroes they were slow as snails compared to today players. Ganguly has 10000 runs in ODI and let us not criticize him even though he is not our grand father. he had his days and we should appreciate that he could do better than us who never even could play 1st class cricket.

Lesson for BCCI
by H Shah on May 03, 2010 07:04 PM

While BCCI buraucrats are out lynching each other, the players' respect for each other is a welcome sight in Indian camp. Pawar, Manohar and Srinivas should be ashamed of themselves for cooking up charges and starting unnecessary infighting.

its a sheer luck
by Anitha on May 03, 2010 06:51 PM

Cricket is a game of luck and he could not score against Afghan and he could do it well with SA just bec of luck snd he is just lying about the learning he made from seniors. No he is a self made man and all good and bad goes to him and no one should take creadit.

2007 itself
by Indian Saint on May 03, 2010 04:55 PM  | Hide replies

CSK noticed Raina and gave him a very good offer in 2007. Manoj Tewari, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Uthappa were bought by other franchises. But CSK stuck with Raina. A trust well repaid by Raina...Well done!

dude... get a life! tht 200 u r talkin abt, temme how many hv scored a double century in 25 yrs of ODI history? Raina's knock was the 3rd of it's kind in a T20 international. Pls bear this mind... I'm NOT taking away anythin frm his knock, it was a very good century & more than tht, it was a match winning innings. So, let's close the topic here!

already 2 players did that in 20-20 format..so there will be no hue n cry..
infact scoring 200 in 50 overs format that too with no lifes(raina got 1 yesterday) is more challenging as no one dared to do that till now except one who you were referring ;)

My take is simple. After all, it took 20 years even for `you know who' to score the double century in an one-dayer! If the century scored by Raina had been scored by `you know who', the media frenzy would have been completely overboard, as it always happens in his case! That is what I am emphasizing. And I do not see the name of Vishwanathan Anand anywhere in the Media and he is defending his world championship crown (a real world championship in the true sense of the word and world)at far away Sofia! I am talking only of the media frenzy and nothing else. I am not belittling anyone by saying `he had a life' etc.

You are right.Media has highlighted select games and individuals.I was aghast when on the day CSK won every news channel was dicussing why MI lost and not how CSK won,They were talking about MI batting order why Pollard came lower why Bhajji went up the order and not how three spinners of CSK bowled 12 overs .One news channel ended analysis by paying tribute to Sachin!!!

Extremely talented Raina
by Good ForAll on May 03, 2010 12:09 PM

Extremely talented Raina, hopefully he will lead decent life style rather focusing on IPL nights.

as long as Raina will stick basics like Sachin, India will see massive runs from Suresh raina, great going.
