Wha d hell is happening???
by sdfgdfsgdfg dfgdfgsdfg on Mar 24, 2010 03:30 PM

IPL Parties at nite, cheerleaders dancing to boundaries and fall of wickets, Filmiwallahs owning the franchisees - can any1 find the game element in this whole system? can the cricket really be able to carry the tag of 'gentleman's game' when it comes to such oplunce, extravaganza, and dirty show of money?
I hope these questions r valid, and makes some sense to a few.
BCCI (which itself is headed by a politician and an agriculture minister who has more time for cricket than tending to suiciding farmers and price rise), and Modi & Co. need to do some solu searching, introspection and take tangible actions to bring some concrete ve results to turn around this trend of commercialising the game blindly by following the EPL way. If EPL is cash rich, let it be - IPL need not have to compete them - afterall, EPL is bout soccer, its not about 'Gentleman's Game'.

Can IPL be another IT revolution in India
by abboral boral on Mar 24, 2010 01:29 PM

cricket is now 15000 crore market but how many jobs can be created for Indians as we find IPL has facination towards western countries whose economic conditions are in down turn ,Is IPL want to save those down economy of other countries -I mean apart from players how many of Indians can be recruited in each franchisees in different capacities .I think Mukesh Ambani can play a big role by creating some kind of Industrial status of IPL as I think he is only person doing on this line along with Sharukh Khan as well for KKR .Let us hope IPL creates millions of job in line with IT revolutions of 90s .I have some thoughts on this line
1.Create seperate stadium in four Metros only -need 20000 crore-2000 direct and 1 lakh indirect employments to maintain the stadium

2. Create seperate Security sytems for each stadium -1 lakh seperate force in line with NSG

3. Each Fanchisee need to run as seperate company -1 lakh employments in diffeerent capacilies including opening of retail stores for selling their own products like sports gears ,FMCG products ,tickets
4. All BPOs can be benifitted for marketing and selling all products of franchisee -direct employment of 10 lakh
5. Each Franchisee will have seperate management team of 100 each with CEOs
6. There will be indirect employments of 10 lakh for all kind of logistic suplies, canteen ,food items etc

Sahara Group and Rendezvous Sports are fools !!
by Anand on Mar 24, 2010 08:47 AM  | Hide replies

For sure Modi bluffed Sahara Group and Rendezvous Sports to the maximum. I am not good at economics but I wonder how they will make profit paying so much.
Sahara bought Pune franchise for $370 million for a 10 year contract. $37 million per year and to buy players $7 millions and rest other investment approximately $6 million. Totally $50 million per year.
IPL happens for 6-7 weeks.
If they can make $50 million in 7 weeks I will salute to Modi financial acumen.
Subroto Roy its dollars u are spending and not rupees. I mean $50 million and not Rs 50 million !!

my dear, Subroto is a very shrewd business man. All the black money of Mulayam singh and co will now be converted as white.. it is another tool for them to convert it to white.. and over and top of it they will make profit.. wait and see

There are several ways they can make money; ticket pricing , merchandise, and television rights share are few ways. Brand equity is the biggest reason why franchisees flock in to sports business.

Sahara is a Bechara
by Ok Well on Mar 24, 2010 06:37 AM

How is Subroto Roy able to shell out so much. I think he is putting his entire money that he got by selling his airline business to Jet. I heard that Sahara is not a good pay master. What if the employees revolt against their boss and argue that he has money to spend extravagantly but no money to give a good raise, then what ?.

IPL body raises auction cap for each franchisee
by kr prasad on Mar 23, 2010 08:17 PM  | Hide replies

The game of cricket in earlier times in London was meant for Lords and other rich persons for time pass.
They played cricket in some open parks where one can freely see the game.
Later to popularise the game some coffee company to promote its product and
brand freely started distributing Free Coffee to the persons who attended the game.

It is pity, that a poor country like ours where millions go starving for want of food, shelter and healthcare, should be happy to be proud to spend Millions and Billions for a game which has become a purely commercial one unlike in the past, when Bradman and Nayudu were really giving cricket with love.

Why this flaunting of money when country needs the money for better purposes?

How the Franchises are getting back this huge investment? Simply they jack up products they are manufacturing and eat people's money.

General Public may not know this and enjoy the game thinking they have achieved something by watching the game by paying Ticket money to be present in the stadium.

I do not know how many may agree with me but surely, compassion and sympathy for fellow persons is missing from our country with so called economic boom.

IPL-3 is valued at $4.13 billion (Rs 19,000 crore) which is more than double of $2.01 billion in IPL 2009. It is also estimated that IPL-3 is the world’s sixth most valuable sporting event, a position it achieved in just three years. This huge amount of money was never seen in the history of cricket. The prize money announced was three times the prize money of a cricket world cup.Sony MAX spends on Ads to get more Ads for IPL season 3 expects 700 crores this season.

Speaking about valuation, tell me who has valued IPL 3 . did any indipendent Consultion Firm did the valuation???If Modi says it is valued 19000 crore people will accept it??? tell me on what basis is this valuation?? how about the profit these franchices are making?.for your kind information the only profitable franchises are mumbai indians and KKR. dont be surprised they made just 50 crore last year. Better dont say anything about the new franchises which shelled out 1500 crore .imagine investing 1800 crores and getting a return of 50 crore per annum...amazing!!!what a business!!...world started living on hype.people will be soon brought back to reality whem this hype bubble is going to burst...most probably in couple of years time!!!

It will not be totally incorrect to assume those dancing models entertaining IPL kings like Modi, Malya etc nefore and after the game as usually all stay in one hotel.

Even studs like Yuvraj must be taking some good rides whenever possible.

Just guessing and its no surprise if that is happening.

But its fair as long as nobody is forced.
