Was the 2nd of Kumar''s wicket a genuine?
by Raghav on Mar 19, 2010 01:52 PM  | Hide replies

When Manish Pandey, took the running catch, it hit his cap in the bargain. Per the rules, if the ball hits the fielder's cap or helmet, the batsman is given 5 runs. So I think, the 2nd batsman (Dogra, I guess) was not out, and instead should have been awarded 5 runs.
Please let me know if you think otherwise.

In 2001, Sachin Tendulkar played a full blooded pull, the ball hit the fielder short leg on his helmet, and lobbed in the air. Ricky Ponting completed a good catch, and Sachin had to go back to the pavilion.

your intepretation of the rule is wrong.. the rule says deliberate use of the cap in assisting the cap..good observation though

As per me this rule is applicable only for cap / helmet that is placed behind the wicket keeper on ground and not applicable to fielder who is wearing the same.

Thats correct. 5 runs are awarded only if cap / helmet that is placed behind the wicket keeper on ground. If 5 runs are awarded for hitting caps then it should be applicable for touching shirt, pant, shooes as well :)

Runs awarded only when helmet or anything other belonging to fielding side placed on the field.

:) What if the ball hits a dog on the way to boundary. How many runs will be awarded and who will be penalised? May be the umpire ??

rule only says if the ball hits the helmet or cap straight. In this case he caught the ball, slipped out of his hands, hit the cap and then on second attempt he got it and it is absolutely a clean catch. Don't think that umpires are dumb asses!

What about Lakshmipathy Balaji
by Ganapathy Mohanraj on Mar 19, 2010 01:10 PM

I don't know why rediff is so biased?

The first one to get the hat-trick in IPL is Balaji and he is not even named in the description. Apart from that they are campaigning for Amit Mishra to make him a great bowler......

This time KKR team has changed their colour of Jersey From Black to Navy Blue, as for sentimental issues. Since the previous 2 teams who won the IPL are blue in coloured jersey. Hope so this time KKR team has the chance of winning the IPL title.

But if Dada was there in KKR, they can't win the IPL title, since always a bad luck follows him.

You think yourself to be real Lord Ram or what ? Mr. Rajaram... Calling others Barber.. Well .. you will soon see.. that this form of game is not for Dada. Frankly Dada is worst among all the players in KKR for this format of game.. He may be a good human being or a good Test/One day player but not this....

he can serve the team better by staying out of the team, may be an assistant coach or delivery boy..or still better an expert in running between wickets..
