All the fast bowlers in the world are fit except indians
by nischal maniar on Mar 10, 2010 12:07 AM  | Hide replies

All fast bowlers u name it ... mitchell johnson, shaun tait, jeromy taylor, fidel edwards. They all bowl consistently above 140kmph. And the reason is they play less cricket and give time to their body to heal after all the workout. Whereas the amount of cricket indians play and on top of that we add IPL, definitely is gonna break our indian bowlers and thats why we have bowlers like Ishant Sharma who started off bowling at 145kmph and now hardly even touches 135. Board is getting greedier and greedier without thinking of what the players are going through. And no indian player wants to opt out of IPL coz they don't want to fall into bad side of the BCCI

Ishant can't bowl upto 145 because of load that's not correct. Most of the Aussies play in their country's domestic Cricket, International Cricket and county Cricket also. Then also they give a superior performance at highest level. Moreover IPL is choice based Cricket, if Cricketers are feeling exhausted then they could back out from their respective franchises. BCCI have never imposed any obligation on any Cricketer to play in IPL.

Reason behind Sharma's dip in form might also be because of nature pitches we have.
We don't have fast bowlers paradise like Perth or any south african pitches.
Since India plays more on batsmen oriented pitches, apart from Zaheer, no one is performing

IPL - A Loss to Indian Cricket
by sanath on Mar 09, 2010 11:52 PM

There is no doubt as to that question whether IPL is hurting Indian Cricket - of course it is hurting Indian cricket very badly.

1. Look at the scenario where every Indian player - senior, junior or bench strength - is analyzed, mapped and sorted out - this is what happened during the last T20 WC. IPL exposed our vulnerability to short balls, and also our minuses in fielding and running between the wickets. This is compared to the fact that the foreign players who play here are usually retired from cricket players or at least retired from T20 players, whereas the active ones skip the tournament or play very leisurely. Biggest example - when India contested as an underdog, it won, but after IPL, it lost in the first round.

2. Check out the scene last T20 WC where we missed the services of many players including Sehwag due to injuries from IPL.

3. Players are making a lot of money from IPL (which they are indeed welcome to) but this makes them not take national duties with the same seriousness. This is not only about the playing lot, my neighbor's wife was mentioning how she wanted her son to take to cricket, and when my wife mentioned that it would be nice if he could play for the country, she retorted that pagal hain kya, I want him to play IPL as then money and fame is there, but no risk like being dropped or ppl attacking homes if series is lost against any other country. So we can imagine what the attitude of this generation to the game is going to be.

There goes the mentality of an average Indian..
by QandA QandA on Mar 09, 2010 11:21 PM  | Hide replies

As always a poor mentality... Anybody who tries to create wealth in India will be always shown the Kolkatta communists beggers..

Cricket was ALWAYS ruled by money.. DOORDARSHAN a government controlled entity ALWAYS KEPT THE PROFIT.

Remember the current owner of NDTV (Prannay Roy) used to pay bribes (80 lakhs) to doordarsh for his wrold this week to Doordarshn owners in the 80's to all the babus. But he used to make more money in advertising..

Long story short CRICKET value was always created by TV especially when India had the INSAT satellite program...

But look what happened when the babus controlled the "Value".. They kept it for themselves..

Let IPL or ICL or anybody else create value.. IPL is for 44 days.. TOMORROW something else would be there for may be 100 days...

DO NOT OBSTRUCT ANYBODY WHO CREATES WEALTH (LEGALLY) in India... Let the MARKET FORCE DECIDE WEATHER CRICKET SHOULD EXISTS OR IPL SHOUL EXISTS...

In US there is a huge market for baseball.. No other country (except Japan) plays baseball... But do the US care about anybody else.. NO 'Cos the internal market for US for baseball is in BILLIONS..

IPL is creating a market in the range of billions and people who don't like it should just turn OFF THE TV and watch OLD VIDEO TAPES OF pakistan bangladesh matches...

Its not the question of whether IPL is making money. And who are feeling jealous of it. IPL is great for cricketers who have to make a living for themselves. But what the article is trying to say is, Cricketers are not following their ultimate dream for which they took up cricket and that was playing for the Indian team and above all performing well. Nothing wrong in playing IPL but not at the cost of losing focus in domestic test cricket.
And get your facts right Baseball is not a huge market in US... its American football ... and by the way .. US doesnt play any global team sports. Or in other words ... US sports are played by no other country coz their sports are Anti-british.

Nonsense! There's nothing anti-British about it. Baseball is not only played in US- it's also a major sport in Cuba, Venezuela, Taiwan, Japan, Dominican Republic, to name a few.
They just don't have the 'Test Matches' equivalent of cricket.

Yes even if these countries play baseball, there is no global tournament for American sports. I have never seen Japan participate in the "World" series. So you cannot compare cricket to american sports. What I am trying to say is teenage Indian cricketers don't understand that performing in IPL will not help them make it to the national team. But if they perform well in Test cricket and make it to national team and do well there then they are an automatic selection for IPL as well

stop comparing ourselves with loser countries
by chris on Mar 09, 2010 10:37 PM  | Hide replies

honestly ..Cricket is being played by 8 nations ..absolutely not the most preferred sport in the world ..ICC ropes in canada holland kenya(all d class players) just to make world cup look big..out of that australia,NZ,westindies, england SA (thats 50% of the world cup teams) concentrate and are too good in other sports(proof look at the olympic medal tally, just imagine these countries with less than 30 million population concentrate only in cricket just as india does, solely only play cricket, breath sleep and eat cricket, then do we stand a chance of being #1 in test or #2 in ODI,India only concentrates on cricket, and dont even go there with tennis(only doubles no achievements in singles which is the main event)
shooting gold in olympic after how many years ???..cmon guys give me a break is this a sport we should be proud of achievements.. so what our we left with pakistan(bad econommy problems, srilanka(tiny country with half the country divided, bangladesh(poor country).thats not statistic..
look at the proofs at how the other countries have performed in other sports..and then reply to my post..
stop comparing ourselves and living in a dream of #1 and # 2 spots when we are 7 largest country in world and 2 largest populations in the world with no proper sport to play..think smart..

Nothing bad about IPL
by Medulla Oblangta on Mar 09, 2010 10:01 PM  | Hide replies

There is nothing bad about IPL and tournaments like this. First it gives exposure to youngsters. Second it keeps senior guys or internationals to be on the toes and perform. Otherwise all Bhajjis and Srees would keep on behaving like gods without even bothering to perform.

After IPL was introduced:

1. India lost T20 WC and the crown in first round.
2. India lost ICC CT 2009 in the first round.

These 2 defeats are no where associated with IPL. With the kind of bowling attack India has, India would keep on loosing all the tournaments one after the other if there batting does not click and stalwarts Sachin, Sehwag, Dhoni, Gambhir or Yuvi do not perform. In current bowling line up, Yuvi looks me more consistent to me than anybody else after Zaheer.

MO:

So in short there is no benefit from IPL....

If Selectors are the one who can revive Team India (especially the bowling), then they can do so very well without the hoo-haa of IPL.... there are enough number of other matches and tournaments played where selectors can spot that talent which you are speaking of...
Agreed? :)

English and Australian players play 4-5 months long county season and use that platform to resurrect their fitness and form. Why there is always so much noise about injuries and exhausts. Tennis and Soccer needs much more stamina than Cricket. There also players play continously in different ATP tournaments, grand slams, leagues and FIFA affiliated tournaments. Why don't they complain about being exhausted?

I believe its a right platform to give some grooming and exposure to youngsters also to combat with international names. In long run, it actually helps the talent hunt. Only thing needed to make sure is that selectors should pay enough respect to performances in tournaments like this.

I believe T20 is a bogus idea. It has nothing to do with Cricket. It is all about money.
Somebody is soon going to come up with an idea of 10 overs a side games, then 5, then 1, and finally choosing the winnerby the toss of a coin! Where is Cricket in all this?
