Sachin is a fine batsman, but.....
by sandeep kumar on Jul 29, 2010 08:12 PM  | Hide replies

People point out that i am a Sachin basher, i am not really, but it has to be said that the more he scores hundreds and 200s in the first innings, the more the question marks over his ability to finish things off? I barely remember any fourth innings score in 20 years except chennai 2008, that can be called matchwinning. Viru, on the other hand, in 9 years has made more difference. Of course, sachin may score another 500 runs, another 10 test hundreds, set records etc, but we are talking of team INDIA here? Of what use are these records? What is needed is to win matches to ensure our No1 slot, and to win world cups. Our cricket crazy population has got just one cup in 83, they deserve far more, and for that they need people who are labelled as GOD to score in crucial mathces, and not just on flat pitches on day 2, against the likes of randiv or mendis

I am confused. Are you saying that runs coming in the beginning do not count towards the total? Set Records and not playing for India Team? These runs do not count towards team total? Sachin coming in the top order is bound to not finish the matches more often. Dhoni/Yuvraj have higher chances. As far as Veeru is concerned, we all know that he is high risks/ high returns with his style. I agree that team should win more matches to win the world cup. But that is team work. It does not help if one shines. We need more than that. Calling team player, playing for the team, I have seen several players like Veeru, Ganguly and now Raina saying that Sachin helped them with the mental balance during the times they scored huge. What else do you want from Sachin? I do not believe in anybody including Sachin being called God. That will be insult to God. But Sachin is the greatest player we had so far. I feel that he is the greatest batsman earth has produced.

Sandeep, I understand your point, lets not make Sachin the only person to bat in a test. If you had taken out the 203 now, we would be following on to save the test. And had he scored a century in the second innings, he could have done it in the first innings.
Lets savor the achievements rather than making comparisons for unwanted reasons.

I guess you also need to take out atleast half of Raina's and almost of all of Dhoni's score because with Sachin out on duck these guys would have fallen like 9 pins!

Well, ifs and buts not withstanding, had Tendlya gotten out cheaply in this FIRST innings, nobody knows what might have happenned... may be batting collapse, may be follow-on , may be an innings defeat. Everyone, I mean everyone wants reconds, only a few have the capability/caliber to acheive one! Sehwag in my opinion is a bigger match winner though (a little more consistency will certainly help team-India). Tendulkar, Lara, Murli, Warne, Kumble are the LEGENDS of modern cricket, inhein criticize karne ki kisi ki bhi a.u.k.a.a.t nahin hai (not even some Bishen Bedi)

You defenitely do not qualify to be called a "Sachin Basher". But you do not know what is cricket. Thats clear in your message above. You are asking what is the use of these runs and records??? Are you kidding me Sandeep? See what time Sachin came to bat in this test. See the 'batting' line up below him and see the no of runs that India had to make to prevent another embarassing defeat....! Now u think... and then say whether at least now u realize the importance of all these runs and records!!!!

You are talking abt Cricket Crazy population.. How did that population become Cricket Crazy?? By the 83 world cup win? NO... The population grew up seeing Sachin play... He carried the hopes of this cricket crazy population for close to 20 years.. ppl came and went... no one had millions of hopes pinned on to him every time he held a bat...!! FOr understanding the real worth of the phenomenon called Sachin Tendulkar, you need to WATCH cricket.. follow it regularly... and most important.. you need to have a brain and a clear mind!!

Ppl like u shld probably watch games like Chess, Tennis etc where u can point at a SINGLE person for win or lose...!!

The real genius of Sachin does not care what morons like u talk... Flat pitch, drawn test... Sachin shld play for winning etc... Even if Sachin scores 500 runs in this test, with the pathetic bowling attack that we have, we cannot win a test match... anywhere in the world...!! Now take a hike!!

Well, tell me who were ure inspiration to watch cricket int he 90s? Srikkanth? Ravi Shastri? Praveen Amre? Sanjay Manjrekar?? There was an time period of at least 10-15 years Sir.... when Indians switched off their TVs when Sachin was out.. cos there was no hope left... No Kambli, or Azharuddhin or Siddhu could do what Sachin could... then and even now!

Dude, are you trying to underplay rainas achievement? He walked in with the team in trouble chasing 650 odd, and inspite of that, played his natural game. Thats called talent, and thats why hes the best young batsmen in the world today. And about the pitch, lankans obviusly got the best of the batting conditions on day1 and 2, now its a slow, turning pitch, and it takes quality like raina to score. And i guess you also notice he played the short ball quite well, when he pulled fernandos balls to the boundary. He might have struggled a few times earlier, but is there anyone in cricket who plays short ball well? Give credit where its due dude, instead of blidnly worshipping srt

Make up your mind, Sandeep Kumar. IYou say the pitch is slow and so it is. In which case, Suresh Raina shouldn't have had a problem playing the short ball, right? So, what's the big deal about playing the short ball on such a pitch? Go, learn something about cricket before passing uneducated comments about Tendulkar or about the game. The sad fact of the matter is that people like you - and, trust me, there're millions in our country, have no understanding of the game but are quick to shoot from the hip and pass silly comments.

Raina the best young batsman in the world...yeah, right! And, pray, just who pronounced this judgement?

Great work by Raina, he can now play all forms of cricket. By default he has captained India in ODI & T20 before making his debut in Tests. We need to figure out how to keep Dravid & Laxman in practice, they are great but there is not substitute for match practice.

Hey, show some respect. He has been out of the game for nearly 6 months(forget IPL). He is still one of the best in the world. If he does not show improvement later in this season, he could be given an honourable exit. Talking about slip, he is the best slip fielder in India. He has the world record for catches by a non-wicketkeeper. So talk sense.
