Retiring from the national term of pakisthan cricket is very common. Once someone sacked or getting some sort of punishment, there is normally retiring the players in paki is very common.
It is also common after someone is retiring from the term, somebody else will make a statement that this particular player shold come out of retirement and do their best for national term. Some times a player of year years, or some important person of cricket, sometimes a very common citizen or some times pakisthan president.
Immediately some one make such comment the player is having an announcement that he is ready to do the national duty. Both player and commenting person is making money.
To make 2 youngsters Azhar Ali and Umar Amin bat in the most important batting positions 3 & 4 in Tests is ridiculous to say the least. Other teams have the best and most experienced batsmen in positions 3 and 4 (Sachin&Dravid, Ponting&Clarke, Sanga&Mahela). Younis Khan should be batting in one of these two positions. Promoting Umar Akmal in the batting order may also not be a bad idea.
Younis still can play 1-2 years for Pak but Yusuf should retire now. I don't know why Pak selectors don't pick players who can play long innings. I don't know why A.Kamal, Y.Hameed, N.Latif like players are ignored for long format.
