What a fantastic way to retire...
by sheela bhandarkar on Jul 17, 2010 08:24 PM  | Hide replies

I remember our great Pajee playing on and on ... just to beat then Hadlees World record even though he was getting only tail enders wickets .. that too with heavy sweating and denying able and young fast bowler like Sreenath his due chance .. You are more remembered for the way you play than the records you make

Dear Sheela, please look at the larger picture before criticising the greatest cricketer India has produced. As a country of under achievers, a world record in our name was in national interest. Salute to paaji- we love you and we are proud of you; and I am not a punjabi, just a Indian

I agree with you, Sheela.

A poor way for a legend to go out.

Kapil Dev used to struggle so much...during one test, Kumble and others were purposely not taking wickets so that Kapil Dev could have a go. It was tragic.

sachin should follow
by aakash kulkarni on Jul 17, 2010 07:54 PM  | Hide replies

I think murali is a great bowler(inspite of all the controversies),
and he didnt have anything else to achieve personally,i think sachin should follow murali and retire and give some youngsters much needed chance.

Over 18/19 years,he has not got involved on his own in any controversy. It's the rogues "Aussies" who didn't have any clue on how to play him. Fearing loss they created all the troubles for him....

Murali's best are over and he knows that. that's why he is retiring..whereas Sachin still has a lot to offer. When the situation comes, he'll also do the same.

I doubt it very much.

There is so much money in cricket nowadays, Murali is a rarity that he is going when everybody is asking "Why" rather than "Why not"...

Among Indians, only Sunil Gavaskar timed his retirement well. Many others, like GR Viswanath, Krish Srikkant, Kapil Dev, etc. did not.

Extraordinary bowler
by mohan on Jul 17, 2010 07:52 PM  | Hide replies

Murali is magical, a terrific bowler at his peak. The Aussies and some under-achievers tried to malign him but he faced it like a gentelman, and thrived under the system.

I wish he had touched 800 mark, but records
for records' sake make no sense. To me, his 792 wickets already looks like 800.

Wish him the very best in his retirement.

The game needs some cool heads like him.

No doubt on that, he has gone down in the history books as one of the very greatest cricketers of all times, a bowler whose deeds will take a miracle to be eclipsed. I doubt if his record will ever be broken.

A colorful and jovial human being and sportsman, he has been a wonderful ambassador for the game. Hats off to him!

Thank you Murali for such an entertaining cricket in test matches. We all miss you in the field. Every successful and talented and Maverick man was accused of malpractice. In your case - chicking. Its normal. But your record speaks for yourself.

I support ICC which cleared all the allegations. When the governing body doesnt have issues, who are we decide something different with no basis?

It doesnt matter. the Rules agree there is no issue with Murali.
All rules were defined by a panel and there has been changes. there was a time when bowlers bowled 6 bouncers in a over. Someone bowled underarm. there were beamers to which there was no restriction. Today, batsman is not out to LBW if the ball pitches outside the leg stump.
Players play according to rules and as long as rules allow that is right. Who are we to make special judgments on how the rules are framed and who influenced.
Murali is nowhere related to all this and he was just playing what he could, and did a fair play with excellent ground behavior.

He is one of the cricketers always smiling complementing others performances and enjoying the game.
He remains as one of the greatest cricketers of the World Cricket since its inception.
