by vinay on Jul 16, 2010 11:54 PM

knowing ind's no. 1 test status, with due considerations that v dont hv even decent bowling line up at all. agreed v hv good batting line up (atleast for dead pitches) but without a decent bowling line up, how can v treat us as world champ team in test.

that shows ckt standard all over the world has deteriorated n v r andhonme kana maamaa.

ha ha . A so called game which even inventor does not take seriously, is mostly hyped in india. all other words (pants, english etc) you have used above still apply to western world so nothing wrong in using them. but in UK, soccer is the mos popular sports.
So in nutshell, if you have so slavery bent of mind, why not play a game that is played by your masters i.e. soccer

does cricket need a world cup-statistic
by chris on Jul 16, 2010 09:02 PM

Lets do the statistic.
Austrlia,NZ ENG,WESTINDIES,south africa all these nation have other sports they play and are very good at it(proof olympic medal tally).Cricket is not thier only sport.so what are left with..
SRilanka pakistan india bangladesh.all these countries are 3rd world countries and cricket is the only sport they concentrate.canada holland kenya are countries where even the bombay cricket team can beat themm now these countries are roped in to play for a world cup.is this a joke world cup...as india the literally the whole country concentrates in cricket and yet we boast of being no 1 in test cricket.
just imagine if the whole of aus, eng,nz.west indies concentrate in cricket .india would be no where..
stop this madness of cricket world cup which is being played of useless countries.we just starting coming up in badminton, and shooting.cmon guys think abt it.we comparing our progress in sport with pak..hmmm pak great country to compare surely not great as china..china is the country we should compare with..give me break. 1 .2 billion people and 1 sport cricket nice statistics..and morever cricket is most laziest game and thats why its called a gentlemans(God knows why).cause all gentlemans are lazy.
We need a excuse just for everything compare ourselves to pak and really dont know the reason,we are more populated, size wise, and intelligencewise
Achievements are i consider is Sania nehawal, vishy(chess),leander paes and shooting out of 1.2 billion in 50 yrs

Has the standard improved ?
by SekharaM on Jul 16, 2010 06:06 PM

I used to follow Indian cricket with a lot of interest, but nowadays I lost interest - I do not care about the result. It is clearly too much cricket.
With so much cricket being played, has the standard improved? I feel that cricket in India must take a holiday for at least 5 months in the year with no activities planned at home or abroad. Give the players a chance to recoup and come back with more energy. Camps may be conducted to improve their skills, bu there should be no competitive cricket during this period.
This IPL tamasha is killing all good technique and discipline required to become a great player. They are like second rate pop stars - any average cricketer who can swing an arm and has a good eye-hand coordination is out to make a fast buck for an year or two.
How many of these young cricketers are trained and capable to survive against top class bowling (pace or spin) for a sustained period of time, say some 20 overs?
In my view, they are not cricketers but highly paid entertainers with no class to show.

agree with you 100%. india should tour these countries more often and then try and win matches there...or atleast be good opponents there.. but our corrupt board will not send india there because india will loose most of the matches in these three countries and then they will loose sponsorship... if you notice india always plays against weaker oppositions like srilanka, westindies, zimbabwe and if india do play against aus, southafrica or england it will be in india and not in their homeground...india last toured australia in 2007...have not toured south africa or england in the last three years except for the t20 world cup in england...

yea right. 0-0 matches with dives, kicks, cards are classified as great show.I tried watching the world cup but IPL was far more enteraining.Like it or not, cricket is indias religion and full houses during ipl were proof enough. Also, the trp ratings for Indias cricket matches are far more than any soccer in India. Its time for the minority like you to support the worlds no1 team

World's no. 1 team?? LOL.

Cricket is a game for rickshaw pullers, pan walas, school boys, umemployed youth, fat people, etc.

Cricket is one of the laziest sports around. How can anyone play for 8 hours and call it a sport? 8 hours! That's one full day - obviously there's no intensity.

Have you ever wondered why cricket is so popular in India? because we're lazy people and we like to waste time - cricket gives us an excuse to waste a whole day.

Kenya, Bangladesh, Sri lanka, Zimbabwe, Pakistan - all failed nations! These countries make the entire list of cricketing nations!

What a retarded sport. Seriously, the Football WC was a respite. Hard core action that gets over in 90 mins. Truly a man's sport.

I hate when people compare among sports. each has its unique way of entertaining people. No offence, but how many countries play cricket to be considered as world cup competition. 10 -12 countries? India being world no 1 in cricket is no consolation. But the fact is there are close to 200 countries in the world. and I must accept more than 90 percent of these countries play football.
