Difficult task for SA
by Ezhil Maran on Jan 30, 2010 10:28 PM  | Hide replies

Beating India in India is always difficult. Smith is aware of this as his comment shows. The Australians and South Africans are good against pace, but suspect against spin.

India can win this series.

Mickey Arthus issue will definitely affect SA team's performance on India tour.

Indian pitches are slow and spin friendly. Teams like Australia, England, SA will never find green top wickets in Indian subcontinent. And none of these teams have good spinners. So, Beating India in India is nearly impossible since for Ponting's Australia defeated them 2-1 in 2004-2005.

But this also a fact that Indians find it very hard to play on Green Top in Australia and SA, and thats why they could never won a series in these two countries. The won in NZ as flat wickets were prepared in NZ last time to suit Indian team and TV coverage.

This is a fair practice. When India goes to Australia and South Africa, they invariably find only pace friendly wickets which suit the home teams and so the visiting teams should have no complaints in playing on spinner friendly pitches. In any case, any team claiming to be the world champs should be able to play on any kind of pitches and win. This applies to both India and South Africa as also to Australia.

Also, pitch tampering f they are losing. In Kanpur last time they bug@ed the pitch when trailing 0-1.

India just have a good batting line-up with ordinary bowling and bad fielding. This is not enough for a world class cricket team.
Only aussies and SA'a are above ordinary with teams complete in most departments of the game. They play complete cricket.
Hence the best result Indians can hope against the south africans is a draw.

India has won against teams other than aussies and SA.The record of India against these top two teams in the world is not good.Hence the true acid test of strength is against these two teams. So look forward to what happens on feb.6.

I am not just talking about the last one year.Overall, the record is not good.Of course,India is trying to change the situation.Let us hope for the best.
Please don't try to find excuses like wrong umpiring etc.Accept facts as it is.One can boast after good results. Not before.

Nadeem,
Well said. There are always one or two morons keep claiming India lost because they lost those last three wickets to part timer.

These moron conviniently forgets tht India was in the winning position and could have won the Test easily had the Umpires done their job right

CS:

The last 3 wickets clearly demonstrated our ability to lose a 100% drawn match.

If the umpiring had been good during the test, we might have shown our ability to draw a 100% won match, instead... :)

Mr Nadeem, please do not bwecome emotional about our country.

In Sydney, more than bad umpiring, it were our own batsmen who lost the match. They lost last 3 wickets in 2 overs to a part time bowler and later to hide their incapabilities they made a lot of noise.

The fact is that Australia and SA have better teams than Team India as of now, even if India is No. 1 among 9 countries who play test cricket.

Good point. And India's dominance in ODIs is really overwhelming as well.... ;-)

For the 23 hours we were dominating, that is... :)

So this 1, 2, & 3 in rankins will keep happening. But the question is about team composition and fighting spirit... :)

Whilst I want to see our team in the top notch rankings, I am also a cricket fan at heart... :)

But that is not allowed on the Rediff cricket forum, as I have learned through experience... :)

Shame on you and your filthy attempt to downgrade Indian cricket. Every country makes pitches that favors their team.. WAKE UP !!!
