Both Shakib & Sehwag were right..
by abhilash mulky on Jan 21, 2010 10:51 PM

Both captains were very honest in their pre match press conference.... India showed that they wil find it difficult to retain N0.1 status... Also Bangaldesh is a ordinary team which cannot draw a test match at home.

India-Bangladesh First Test
by K.P. Balasubrahmanya on Jan 21, 2010 10:25 PM  | Hide replies

An extraordinary team defeated an ordinary team by 113 runs that too on the 5th afternoon!I congratulate the Bangla team for their valiant display. They made Sehwag eat his words and gave the Indians a run for their money. No one imagined that they would take 20 Indian wickets in a test, that too of a team that boasts of the strongest batting side of the likes of Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, Sachin, Laxman, Yuvaraj! Inspite of winning the match I would have given the man of the match award to Gambhir who was instrumental in getting out score over 400 in the 2nd innings. First innings was inconsequential when both sides scored the same amount of runs; or to that boyish looking wicket-keeper batsman of bangladesh who (mercilessly)hit our bowlers and scored the fastest hundred of the match. But the juries are always sympathetic to that old guard called Sachin. Given the smallest chance the award goes to sachin.
Anyway our 'extraordinaries' beware of the 'ordinaries.' Sehwag,You may bite the dust if you are over confident, and will be the laughing stock if you express your confidence!.

Thanx for treating the match as 2 back to back ODIs.... :)

Whilst I agree with you on the "Sehwagism" of the Indian captain, I completely disagree with you on how you converted this Test match into 2 ODIs.... :)

I believe u are making an emotional statment without any logic. Sehwag had made vary valid comments before the match. But as thay say that anything is possible in a game ,India got out cheaply. But had it not been that extraordinary knock by the master blaster , india would be playing defensive throughout the match but it did not happen . Secondly , had weather not played the bad role , india would have finished the match on 4th day before the Tea . Its very simple analysis . tendulker got the man of the match as only he deserved it and no body else.

losing the match from a winning position. that is what makes bangladesh an ORDINARY team.

India started off poorly on Day 1 of the test, but then came back strongly and compltely controlled the proceedings of the remaining four days. That is what makes India a good team, though any good performance against bangladesh should be talked about much.

MOM
by thagadappa on Jan 21, 2010 10:17 PM  | Hide replies

I think BCCI should make a rule that regardless of who hits the century Sachin should be delared MOM if he has scored at leat one run.

This is a good decison as Sachin score 100 with 3 easy lives where as Gambir score with out any lives in the 4th innings.

Gambir and Amit M should be shown door for not scoring 200 and 100 respectively.

I dont agree with you here. If Sachin wouldn\'t have played under pressure in first innings, then India would have been down with the lead for Bangladesh and we could have scrumbled in second innings after seeing the deficit of over 100 runs, which we have seen can make u loose the match. Sachin played in conditions which were not good for batting. Gambhir played in good batting conditions and Amit Mishra didnt pick crucial wickets.

do not over react. the century by Sachin in the first innings was more important. If not for his innings, India would have been bundled out for less than 150 runs and Bangladesh would have had a 100 runs lead over us. Thigs could have been so different from there on, even leading to a defeat for the Indian team.

On the first morning, the wicket was tough to bat on and it gradually eased on by the fourth day and that is when Gambhir, Mishra, Laxman and Sehwag scored easy runs. even Bangladesh scored more than 300 runs.

not a good analysis..if you think Sachin scored on touch batting condition how could Sewag score 52 runs that too as an opener. don't forget that they put on 70 plus on the board before Sachin came in.

now the second innigs, if you think it was good batting track why din't sachin double century then when he was able to score a century on difficult condition(albeit 3 easy lives).

Ban IPL
by Sangram Sahu on Jan 21, 2010 10:12 PM  | Hide replies

IPL is a business conglomerate. Nothing else. this time it is the cricket - the gentlemens game. IPL can do anything for money sake. It can shift the matches to south africa without considering the self esteem of India. this time it is spoiling the Indo-Pak relation. We at international and national level trying our best to normalise relationship between the two countries politically, socially, economically and diplomatically, but this IPL is playing business outright with this deicate relationship for the sake of money. Government must put its full weight to reign in the IPL's destructive attitude toward Indo-Pak relation. this is too much in the name of cricket. Indo-Pak relation is not Lalit Modi's business theatre house, so that he can turn on or turn off any movie he likes in the name if IPL or cricket. I feel this is the consequence of giving too much freedom to format a modest game like cricket. Stop this business. We apprehend more like this in future given the attitude of the organiser's of IPL.
