Virender Sehwag bats and speaks his mind in a manner that was unthinkable for any Indian captain untill now. I for one welcome his straight, no nonsense single line statements. Sehwag demolishing of attacks across the world has earned him the right to give in your face statements. He hit the right spot by saying Bangladesh is an ordinary side as the reactions coming from Bangladesh are in equal measures by repeatedly emphasising Australia is the best side in the world. (which everyone knows and not because Bangladeshis think Australia is the best team, they are only over emphasising it to pinch India in a verbal jab,it would serve them better if they concentrate to raise their own standard, they can't comment on India by virtue of their own performance so they brought a comparable team Australia to devalue India's win.) Now that they have retruned the verbal volley they should expect Virender Sehwag to fire a second salvo.

Sehwag's arrogance has already paved way for his demise. He is so arrogant and he and his team deserved a LOSS which they averted, courtesy Bangladesh. Indian team (under Sehwag) is par below Australia and South Africa and Sehwag will have no answers for this comment. ARROGANT SEHWAG.

Boss u r joker. India did not become no.1 just because of the ICC's benevolence, but because they won consistently. In case u have forgotten, india beat the aussies hands down in india and won a test match in australia and siuth africa. First come upto international standard before u comment. U guys have been playing for the past donkeys years, but are yet to beat any good side!

Someone who has 2 triple centuries and almost a third one - does have some leverage commit some follies - if thats what you like to call his way of going about things.

AP; Agreed. But, this odes not change the fact that Bangladesh is an ordinary test team. There is a lot of talk abt Sehwags comment but no one is talking that he does acknowledge that Bangladesh can upset and r better(in comparision) in ODIs and T20 ;)

Rocky:
If he acknolwdges about the upset factor, then I agree with it. And he has done a mighty fine job of concealing those comments of his from us thus far.... :)
In that light, his comment about Bangladesh not being able to take 20 Indian wickets was a real Sehwagism.... :)

:)... Your prescription to Bangladesh (on worrying about their own performance) was spot on. :) But on the same note you choose to ignore the "Sehwagisms".... :) Nice.. :)

"Both Ishant and Zaheer were quick and got appreciable bounce from the wicket"
this is what the wicket was doing in Bangladesh first test,
A good bowlers wicket is good attempt at Kotla that neither Lanka, neither BCCI, neither ICC like.
Kotla is not that bad at all. they can make it more bouncy and quick. But instead they banned it.
As Laxma is injured badly in two dropped catches(technique), we need someone stable and little faster than laxman, NO DHONI. Rohit or Kaif are good. rohit is good fielder as well.
because DHONI bring with him the package of crafty politics that slumped India at real places i.e World T20 and world 1 dayers.
ICC false ranking stats to keep india .. do no good for india XI.

E Darwin:
Getting "appreciable bounce" and "getting uneven bounce" are two totally separate things... So no surprises on Kotla being banned till end of 2010...
And in the meantime they HAVE to make it better, so its not as if "instead" they banned it.... They banned it "and" expect the fortifications between now and end of 2010.
As for VVS and Dhoni, well Dhoni WILL come into the team anyway, even if VVS wasn't injured. :)

dont want india to be a side that cant prepare of UNEVEN bounce and be second rated as ICC wants. Kotla will give us opportunity to prepare. remember our discuss about cement pitch which give even bounce and it is good for kids (or under 19 team).
I have seen this a lot happening in India. Comparison should be stopped infact if possible i would say Man of the Match and all the other awards should just be eliminated (We have 20-20 for all the awards and cash, all it does is compare one player to another... It is high time we understood that cricket is not a game played by just one person. It is the performace of all the players in the team.... If batting fails it is a duty of bowlers to save the day and vice versa.
I could see that clearly happening in the first innings and in second innings it was a good performance where the batting and bowling did well... These awards just creates a Gap.. A win is a win and we should be happy about it... Remeber the worldcup when we did not make it to super 6 or the next stage.. Which was the team we lost to...
I think it was in the first innings when Indian top order tried to under estimate the bowlers and in order to score runs they got out same willl be the fate who would under estimate the opponent whereas in second innings everyone got their heads straight.
Rome was not built in a day give other team time to develop and you never know what is kept in future... Enjoy India's victory and stop the comparison.

I think its okay to call them "ordinary",,till when we will be diplomatic, sometimes its needed to put pressure on oppostion,,,BTW I think Bangla is a good team, they made it a good contest ......
Re: Ok so
by sri on Jan 22, 2010 01:40 AM
It doesn't matter - sehwag should have been diplomatic and not said that! If India had won convincingly (which they have not considering their first inning batting and that B'desh did manage to get almost 20 wickets, other teams and countries would/could have said B'desh was ordinary compared to india and that would have been ok).
At least in the subcontinent we shouldnt have to behave like the Aussies - insensitive, and boorish. We will lose a lot otherwise.
Re: Re: Ok so

It should have read: If India had won convincingly (which they have not considering their first inning batting and that B'desh did manage to get almost 20 wickets) other teams and countries would/could have said B'desh was ordinary compared to india and that would have been ok.
credit for win goes to sehwag. he declared ind innings after giving target of 400 . normally ind r not good in declaring innings. that robs us from clinching victories out of the dull draws.

This is the biggest irony in this country. One of Indian poets had written that in India "millions of children, the future of the country, starve and die while Dogs consume bread and milk".
You are living in country where 80% people earn less than Rs 20/Day. You are living in a country of 118 crore people but a BIG ZERO in sports. So, you can expect such things.
Indian public loves entertainment not sports. So,in India Cricket is sold as an entertainment, like movies or Serials of Ekta Kapoor. Thats why it is superhit as Cricketers are entertainers like Shahrukh, Salman, Amir, Ritik who play roles in each match/movie and earn huge money.
Overall, we do not have anything in our showcase as sport. Bindra, Vijender and our hockey players do work hard for the country's pride, but get nothing from the 118 crore citizens.
