Possible future replacements for the current Indian Test batting
by Nikhil Shah on Jan 19, 2010 01:28 AM  | Hide replies

It seems like Karthik effectively cannot overcome Dhoni's loss and a better batting WK is Parthiv Patel.

For Dhoni's replacement:

Parthiv Patel 159 innings @40.85

It may be time for the selectors to also look at how long Laxman can carry on. There are possible middle order heavyweights in the domestic scene with great fielding skills. So for Yuvraj and Laxman the several possiblities from the FC scene they are:

Rahane 58 innings @65.44
Pujara 72 innings @56.00
Murali 54 innings @55.01
Sharma 50 innings @53.52
Tiwary 58 innings @52.76

With a combination of age, sample size and fielding skills, Rahane is the top contender for Yuvraj and Laxman, the next contender is Pujara. It is important
for the selectors to not mix ODI with Tests skills and Manish Pandey is not suitable yet because of his sample size and 20-20 skills . I think we need to start the process with Yuvraj, Dhoni and Laxman

Shewag needs to get vaccine against Foot-in-Mouth disease...
by Gorango Thakurta on Jan 18, 2010 01:56 AM  | Hide replies

Shewag is an all-time master batter, but a subpar leader - because strategic communication is an essential part of leadership. You do not display guts or honesty by bad-mouthing your opponent, but total stupidity. And I am not talking about being an ambassador of the country etc. Suppose you declared that your opponent is weak, and then beat him, your victory would not improve your image, but your (chance) defeat will make you look stupid. But if you said something like *oh, my opponent has some good shots, or he can play well on his day* then you have *hedged* your future. Also, consider any world champion - who (other than Mohamid Ali) ever says, I am the greatest? Federer? no. Tiger Woods? no. Sachin Tendulkar (the greatest batter of all time)? never. Putting down the opponent before the game only helps to motivate them and their fan-base. Praising them may catch them off-guard.

Good that he didn't. :)

Though with the foot in mouth disease that Thakurta described above, you can never rule those comments out.... :)

He might well make comments on illegial bdeshi too (whatever that means)... :)

why Pragyan Ojha not included
by Ravi Kiran on Jan 18, 2010 12:10 AM  | Hide replies

I wonder why Ojha is not included in the playing eleven. He performed well in the last 2 tests against sri lanka after replacing Amit Mishra due to his awful performance in the Ahmadabad test. Somehow Ojha is not being treated well by the tour selectors and team management. They should give him consistent support.

no place for yuv in test team.

when u hv good temperamental players for the longer version of the game, u hv to select them instead of selecting odi players with shortsightedness.

v need players like pujara who plays longer innings, or pandey who played tremendously under pressure.

how can u forget badrinath. lot of people do not know about AMOL MUZUMDAR who is the best batsmen (scored 10,000 runs) in the history of INDIAN DOMESTIC CRICKET has never been considered for indian national team.

yuvraj
by gaurav manchanda on Jan 17, 2010 11:38 PM  | Hide replies

yuvraj is a good ODI and T20 batsman. but he is not suited for test matches. I m not questioning his talent, class and temperament. there are some players who were very good ODI batsmen but failed to make any impact as a test batsman.
take the example of MICHAEL BEVAN. He single handly has won lot of ODIs for australian team. i think he is world's best middle order batsman in ODIs but he did not performed well in tests.

Yuvraj gets selected because of his clout with people who count in Indian Cricket's Team management.

This is test cricket. Not T20. So can't hype a 50 as if it was the best batting on display.

Why India struggles in Opening Test matches?
by Talisman on Jan 17, 2010 11:27 PM  | Hide replies

BCCI usually makes sure india never gets a practice match. Stars fly from their home and onto their First test match. You compare that with the Aussie board. The Aussies make sure, their team has time with practice mateches. They even come in two weeks ahead.

Not that the performance from india's middle order batsmen, especially Yuvaraj and Karthik were anything to write about!

"Such is the gap in ratings points between India and Bangladesh that even if Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his men win the series 1-0, India will drop to 123 points, while a 1-1 draw will put them alongside South Africa on 120 but ahead of the Proteas by a fraction of a point."

isnt it ridiculous that inspite of our winning against bangla, v vl lose the points. that way, viru wasnt wrong.

ViNAY:

Why ridiculous? If we can't beat even Bangladesh by 2-0 with any certainty, then we should lose points.

Despite holding England to a 1-1 draw, didn't South Africa lose points? And didn't England gain points?

So lets stop cribbing at each and every thing in life as if it is designed to put India down. If that's okay with you, that is.... :)
