Future Test replacements for batting
by Nikhil Shah on Jan 19, 2010 01:35 AM

It seems like Karthik effectively cannot overcome Dhoni's loss and a better batting WK is Parthiv Patel. Based on merit and performance rather than looks here are the several possilities.

For Dhoni's replacement:

Parthiv Patel 159 innings @40.85

It may be time for the selectors to also look at how long Laxman can carry on. There are possible middle order heavyweights in the domestic scene with great fielding skills. So for Yuvraj and Laxman the several possiblities from the FC scene they are:

Rahane 58 innings @65.44
Pujara 72 innings @56.00
Murali 54 innings @55.01
Sharma 50 innings @53.52
Tiwary 58 innings @52.76

The cut-off point is a minimum average of 55 and a mininum playing experience of 50 innings, that way if a player is lucky initially it will cancel out in the long term. So the longer he has player the better the average. A batsmen's average tells you at what level he is playing the game. It gives a chance to the selectors to assess if he needs to be persisted, if he has an excellent FC average or not.

With a combination of age, sample size and fielding skills, Rahane is the top contender for Yuvraj and Laxman, the next contender is Pujara.

It is important for the selectors to not mix ODI with Tests skills and Manish Pandey is not suitable yet because of his sample size and 20-20 skills . I think we need to start the process with Yuvraj, Dhoni and Laxman

What viru has told is true absolutely. He has specifically mentioned that Bangla can defeat others in one day format and not in test. So they are really second rated team. Whether Bangla can produce a bowler who can dismiss VVS lakshman twice in a test, in another 20 years is a million dollar question. So dont over exaggerate Bangla. They are very poor and will remain poor for another two decades minimuma

Defensive strategy against a weak Bangladesh team
by uday pawar on Jan 17, 2010 10:39 AM

India should get into the habit of plating tests with 5 bowlers rather than depending on batsmen to score & roll their arms for 5th bowler option. To win tests we need bowlers to take 20 wickets not just draw the tests. Poor strategy....

Man... Why Bhajji!!
by Trash Hater on Jan 17, 2010 10:26 AM  | Hide replies

Its so sad that Bhajji has been confirmed for the test... It was hopeful that he wont be available and India can have a quality spinner playing. But it seems we would have a lifeless spin bowling..
