India has never ever won a test series either in Australia or South Africa.Even in NZ, India won test series last year after a gap of more than 30 years.Against Windies the situation is grim only two series victories in 60 years. The rating system is absolutely faulty.

You are right, the rating system should go back 30 years and consider performances, no no it should go back 60 years and only consider performances in Australia and SA and disregard latest performances elsewhere.
Few years back when Australia was on top & before a series they commented that India were push overs (Which we eventually lost) there was lot of talk in the Indian media that Aussies are arrogant, boastful etc etc. The same Indians are now looking down upon other teams. This shows how hypocritical we were when we protested against Aussies & we are as bad as Aussies when it comes to displaying qualities of "mental warfare" We are no. 1 but can be so in a dignified manner.

You are right. India is No.1 because of a flaw in the rating system despite its bad performances in tests. You said it well as well.

I believe everyone here is talking in the context of test matches.
India had won test series against all teams off late except SA. In the last two test series against Australia, Australia cheated in the Sydney test (away series in early 2008) and won the series 2-1 while India won at home (at the end of 2008) 2-0. India gave run for Australia's money since 2001 when the likes of McGrath, Warne, Gillespie, Gilchrist, Hayden, Waugh bros, Langer, Martin etc. are present in the Australian team. It is hard for Johnson, Siddle, Bollinger, Hauritz composition to threaten India in test matches.
Everyone knows India plays less number of test matches than Aus and SA. Despite that India is no.1 test team because India is consistent in tests over the years.
Now we have to see if India can beat SA and prove a point here.
Why don't some people give credit when it is due. Some people derive saddistic pleasure by put our own country men down.

AC:
The moment you say Australia cheated in Sydney, you should take away most of our home wins against Australia and Sri Lanka, coz they too came with the usual umpiring blunders... Its a different matter that the visitors don't want to make such a hue and cry out of those incidents so as to get umpires sacked and start raising questions on the whole moral fabric of a nation.... But you are free to derive whatever pleasure out of whatever activities you choose to indulge in. :)
hope sehwag will be proven wrong in the matches.that will be a cool site to watch whe he will bite his own fingers. showing overconfidense over an international team is the first mistake they have done.underdogs can come back in any matches anytime.
Wonder if these silly comments are to attrack some attention about this otherwise one-sided borting test match. With BCCI u can expect anything, esp such a cashcow the cricket has become....
INDIA IS BETTER THAN BANGLADESH (IS IT ANACHIEVEMENT?)
If Sehwag feels that it is an achievement to play under ordinary sides, then he should be aware that understrength sides (Australia and Srilanka) have recently defeated India hands down.
Second, Sehwag has been most attractive (on his day) but MOST IRRESPONSIBLE cricketer when he is not (or if it is not his day, you are at courtsey of that). To me he is a BRAINLESS EXTRAORDINARY TALENT.
So getting Sehwag making comments like AUSSIES (irresponsible and enticing) is nothing new. And that too against minnows of world cricket is pathetic and irresponsible.
If India want to emulate Australia they should better do it for CONSISTENCY not in terms of sledging and mind games. If they want to do it, they should do it against Australia, SA, Pak, NZ and Srilanaka.

India's record against all teams from 2000-2009 Ind-Aus 7-7-6 (W-L-D) Ind-Ban 5-4-1 Ind-Eng 5-2-8 Ind-NZ 1-2-4 Ind-Pak 4-3-5 Ind-SA 3-6-3 Ind-SL 6-4-2 Ind-WI 4-2-6 Ind-ZIM 8-6-1
We have great records against every team. There is no need to emulate anybody. The way we play is good enough.
As for Bangladesh ... Any Ranji team can beat them handily.
BCCI does not want to play Bangladesh Indian players don't want to play Bangladesh
ICC wants India to play Bangladesh.
AUS and SL struggled to beat us even with their best teams. So what are you talking about?

But you need to take 20 wickets on any soil and in any country, which SA and Aussies can do. India any bet with current crop of bowlers who bowl good in one match and bad in next nine games?
The answer is self-limiting, why India can not dominate world cricket despite great (individual) batting genius.

;-).... wow.... the most "dominant" team is on the verge of being All Out within 250 to the bowling of #9 team.... :)
Shows how arrogant YOU are... :)
God forbid if we ACTUALLY won something (like even 10 tests in a row), you will surely leave any living Aussie far behind in terms of shouting out arrogant statements out here on the forum. :)
