Who can be good coach?
by LG on Jan 14, 2010 06:32 AM  | Hide replies

First of all, I think there is nothing wrong in listening to free advice from one of the great fast bowlers, Akram. He is not charging any money for that, so it should not matter that he is Paki.

As for who can be a good coach, I believe that coaching is like teaching.

And, to be a good good Coach/teacher one must be passionate about coaching/teaching and should have good interpersonal communications skills. It does not matter whether the Coach was a great bowler or not.

Infact Simons and Akram played against each other in 5 ODIs between 1994 and 1995 and dismissed one another one time each in these ODIs. Cricinfo has details of all those matches. I think this should not had been lost out of Akram's memory.

Oblong:

You too met a person in your class when you were in school. She used to sit 3 rows next to you.
Now don't say you don't remember her name. :)

Yes I still remember her she was Sonia Sharma. :-)

Jokes apart, Glenn McGrath still remembers all his international wickets and in the same order he took them. I as just Cricket follower know well about not only Eric Simons but most of the international players that even represented their countries for just 3-4 matches in past 2 decades then for Wasim being from same fraternity, it is not acceptable that he did not know about Eric Simons after playing 5 international ODIs against him. He must have shared pavilion and pre and post match parties with Eric sometime.

An ODI match was played in 16th Oct 1994 at National Stadium Karanchi between South Africa and Pakistan. In this match Wasim Akram represented Pakistan and Eric Simons represented South Africa. Wasim even took wicket of Eric Simons in this match. He was caugt by Salim Malik off Wasim after scoring 14. Still Wasim did not remember him.

Can Akram be a coach for India
by parthasarathi s on Jan 14, 2010 02:11 AM

Akram is definitely an excellent bowler. After those early days west Indies team, I admire Pakistan seem bowlers. Can we appoint Akram or someone in Pak as a coach for India.

Strong?

Don't let Ian Chappell comment on our weak bowling attack.

Don't let a poor bowler like Akram question BCCI's decision to appoint the best bowler of all times as the bowling coach.

This way we will soon surpass our permanent #1 record in all forms of the game that we have retained since 1932. :)

Akram is Right

I wonder why we Indians are jumping at Akram's throat for asking a valid question. As a follower of cricket, I would have loved to see Allan Donald be the bowling coach and Jonty Rhodes as the fielding coach if at all Gary Kirsten (as did the coaches before him) felt comfortable with staff from his home country.

To select a player with his credentials as a coach is dubious - himself getting selected at 32, and played only 23 ODIs, and then coached unsuccessfully a Protea side !

Is it that Gary Kirsten has some special interest in his being appointed or is it that this guy came cheaper than Donald ?

BCCI sure needs to do some explanation about its selection procedures, but then who is complaining..if a politician can become a cricket administrator, then surely they feel this guy can coach our bowlers !
