unlike some business in this country that put moeny in their pcokets andthink about socity later. put the naton interest first what we need now is a new PM. who cares if cricket sucks. we need people who can run the engine of the economy so that we can reachmilestones and
feel good about it and not feel saddened by cartoons who dont know which road to take and hump us along the way.

IS DONALD A SOLUTION TO PROBLEMS?????????????????
by souvik chatterjee on Jan 07, 2010 11:20 AM  | Hide replies

Allan donald was a great bowler and no doubt that his experiance will proove handy. however, in india we need good pitches which offers bounce and movement to bowlers willing to bend their backs.

There is an old saying “You will do what you are taught”. In Indian Cricket all the pundits say we have to strengthen the domestic circuit. We have one big Ranji Trophy which is the basis of selection to Indian Cricket Team. In Ranji you are taught not to win but to make a draw. Once you get first innings lead that’s it you won the match. We are not taught to win. That’s why Indian team doesn’t have the urge to win like the Australians. (Why are we comparing with the Aus, coz they are the best in Test circuit)

The format of domestic competition should change It should be made 5 day and allocation of points must be based on WIN/ Draw/ Loose. May be in a 5:2:0 Ratio. Then automatically teams will think of Winning rather than playing for a draw. If the match ends in a draw then both teams should be equally rewarded. Both Mumbai and Karnataka does not deserve to play in finals, they are playing in finals because of idiotic rules of Ranji.

That is a nice write up and u just echoed what i have felt all along. Yes, the format of the domestic tournaments is the main reason for our poor bowling performances. Every team tries to bowl defensively to contain the batsmen and not to get them out. No we never produce match winning bowlers.

What do we need
by LG on Jan 06, 2010 09:19 PM

Bowling coaches or good pitches?

I do not think a bowling coach ca make any difference to bowlers who are already playing or about to play at international level.

What we need are good pitches at domestic and international level so that bowlers-especially the fast bowlers get motivated to ball faster instead of aimlessly completing their quotas or losing heart and fitness.

I wonder how come nobody in BCCI or cricketer-turned commentators like Gawaskar , Shashtri, etc. do not raise this point.
