Dont belittle the Don
by abc efg on Mar 04, 2010 06:51 AM

Why does every one belittle the Don's achievement by saying nonesense he's not played many opponents?
How does it matter how many opponents he played...bcos thats not his choice.
But whom ever he played against(S.A, England,India,WI), his averages were staggering....thats his greatness.
And see his first class figures...u..impossible.

u can check sachin n bradman's first class record..both have played nearly equal matches..sachin has avg of arnd 55..while don's is 95..cant u see the difference..bradman still has the record of most runs in a single day (309)..it shows that he used to play fast..nd even his carrier lasted fr 20 yrs..sachin is gr8 but second to bradman..

Batting

1. How many countries did Bradman play.
1. How many tests Bradman play.
2. How many were really strong nations in cricket at that time.
3. What all type of cricket did Bradman play.
4. How many matches bradman bowled.
5. Did he once win for Australia with his bowling.

Just 99.5 makes him a great batsman.

55 average with batting.
10s of thousands of runs scored in every place of the game.

200 catches
200 wickets.

500 matches , 1000 innings.

Entertained 11 test playing countries.

Come on man, Bradman is just greatest batsman,

Legend is Tendulkar.

Great is just a small word, Legend ... quite there.

Praveen:

1. Bradman played all the strong test playing nations during his time, as does Sachin. If Norway starts playing test cricket in 2232 A.D., you can't hold Sachin responsible for NOT playing against Norway, can you? :)
2. Bradman played 52 tests in case you know.
3. Bradman played Test cricket, which was prevalent during those days in case you didn't know.
4. Bradman is a great batsman, so its naturally logical for you to ask how many matches he bowled in... :) And by the way Sachin doesn't bowl now a days, so that proves he has diminished as a batsman and hence we should take away his first ever ODI double century, eh? :)
5. Refer to point 4. above. :)

"Just" 99.5 does make him a great batsman, just as your statistics prove Sachin to be a great player as well..... :)

You don't need to make a legend appear smaller in order to prove another one a legend too.... :)

But that's just my personal opinion, and I'm sure no one on this forum gives two hoots about what a "cricket fan" thinks like... ;-)

What is the rational,,, just the average and fastest 300.

Then in one day Jayasuriya is the greatest :)

Understand cricket not just averages

That was the most "intelligent" comment ever made in the history of mankind.... :)

You have now suddenly "invented" that Sir Don Bradman was a aaltoo faltoo player.... :)

Sachin is no doubtly best batsmen in morden cricket for past 20 years. But is he really won matches for India single handedly? For eg VVS Laxman 200 runs against Aussie in 2001 in calcutta and BC LARA knock of 153* against Aussie in Barbados in 1999.

boss there are many matches that are won by SRT single handedly.. since he plays always thats the reason why his perforamce ges unnoticed.. but the player wo plays once in a bluemoon we can easily recongnise him. thats wt happens with other players who place once in a blumoon and get noticed.

so yopu think laxman 281 was the sole reason for india winning that match... harbhajan 13 wickets dont count neither the runs scored by dravid...
and for once and all india at tea were going to lose that match with aussies all over idnian bowlers... just go back and find out whose bowling made all the diffrence with 3 quick wickets...

I think a truly great player is expected to produce match winning performences, when the team is under pressure aginst the better oppositions. In case of SRT, he has not done that well. He failed in the WC Finals, Agains McGrath & Co many times while chasing big totals. Not a Match finisher !!. Not to take anything away from his performances over the past 20 year. Just a Perspective .....thanks...

why don't you remember the last VB series played in Australia or the Test against England where we chased 387 in Fourth innings or the last tri series final in Srilanka or 1998 Sharjah or Titan Cup or the innings against Pakistan in World cup 2003 and many more. You only seem to remember one knock of VVS or Lara. But may be since sachin is always producing such great Knocks that it is difficult for you to remember....

YES..HE HAS DONE IT!!!THE FIRST 200 in an ODI,feeling proud to be an INDIAN & equally happy for sachin as he is for his country's win as he has always put that above his personal achievements & that's what makes him extra special.Hope he'll do well in the 2011 WC which will be his last ODI tournament & had he not missed out so many 100s in ODIs in 2007, 6 90s in 2007 alone including 3 times 99,even 3 of the 6 90s converted into 100s & the 96* had karthik not hit that 6 to allow sachin to get yet another 100 in ODIs,his tally of ODI 100s would have already 50 then, would have been great thing.Still with 46 100s now, even if he would not reach 50 100s in ODIs,if 48 or 49 ODI 100s,would still make him extra special & all time best in ODIs with over 18000 runs @ around 45 avg!AMAGING STUFF.If he gets 50 100s,it'll be iceing on the cake & a perfect finish along with helping INDIA to do well in the 2011 WC(to reach semis atleast or even to the final like 2003 WC with his amaging form, even close to that will help INDIA to reach semis or final atleast, something like around 350-400 runs in 7 or 8 matches). Then after 2011 WC,hopefully he would be able to play test for another one year atleast till early 2012,assuming staying fit enough at almost 39,even if doesn't get test triple ton (300),it wouldn't be wrong but would be again perfect finish to his test career which is as shining as his ODI one, with around 15000 runs(hopefully get 15000 run mark in test)with more than 50 100s @55-56

with 300 odd runs in 7 or 8 matches will take his score over 2000 in WC for sachin!! that is another record the only player will be then sachin who will be 2000 runs member club of WC & also equalling of playing 6 WCs with Javed Miandad..

Actually sachin requires another 200 odd runs to complete 2000 runs in WC alone!!!!!(currently 1796 runs) Even if he doesn't play well & score around @30 avg in say 7 or 8 matches he plays in 2011 WC he will score those 200 odd runs to get past 2000 runs in WC but hopefully he will score more than that, assuming almost 2100 runs he will finish with in WC alone!!!! (if not a bit more).. 6 WCs!! (equalling Javed Miandad)
