Cricket

Cricket is No. 1 game in India, Pakistan, Srilanka and Bangladsh only. In fact cricket is the only sport in these 3rd world countries of poor people.

Cricket is No. 2 or 3 or 4 in SA, NZ, England and Australia (Rugby, Foodball, Hockey and Aquatics are more popular)

Cricket has completely faded in West Indies. Best athletes have moved to Athletics, Basketball, Baseball, American football in US. They are very rich games from money point of view.

So, cricket is fast shrinking to Indian subcontinent as India controls over 80% of money in cricket.

Cricket in India is private controlled game by a profit making company called BCCI. And Cricket is primarily promoted by Consumer companies (Mostly MNCs like Pepsi, Coke, LG, Aviva,Samsung,...)who sell their overpriced and low quality products.

Performance based selection
by gaymenace on Feb 27, 2010 12:59 PM

TN is the defending champion in the premier domestic ODI tournament. This year too, y'day it defeated Mumbai by 174 runs and is in SF now. It is quite natural their players get visibility in front of national selectors and get picked up. Why people make a big fuss of that?. In fact Rohit just scored in single digit in that match which Mumbai lost. Why is he in the team then even after many failures? Once upon a time, Mumbai dominated the domestic scene and naturally they had many players in the national team. No one complained then. This is performance based selection. So stop cribing. Who ever be, whether they are from TN, Mumbai or Megalaya, give them a fair chance if they perform in domestic tournament consistently. Dont judge them by one match. Only then we will find gems. FYI, Sachin scored only 4 runs in his 1st ODI.

Resting Sachin & Sehwag for not an important game (as series is clinched by India)is understandable. Praveenkumar's inconsistency has costed him the axe. It's high time that Ashish Nehra also be rested & Sreesanth to shoulder bowling responsibility along with youngsters in Sudeep Tyagi, Mithun, A.Nayar, A.Dinda, V.Kumar etc. Also why the selectors have forgotten RP Singh (who was a prime member of victorious T20 team) and lazy lanky Munaf Patel. We have had a series of entry / exit of New Ball bowlers. Either they are out due to injury or due to inconsistency. Why dont the team management provide opportunities to young bowlers & nurture them atleast for a full year season as no one can expect Zaheer, Nehra, Ishant etc. to be at their best for 2011 World Cup.

I agree. In a dead rubber match its good to test the bench strength.

When Sachin Tendulkar travelled to Pakistan to face one of the finest bowling attacks ever assembled in cricket, Michael Schumacher was yet to race a F1 car, Lance Armstrong had never been to the Tour de France, Diego Maradona was still the captain of a world champion Argentina team, Pete Sampras had never won a Grand Slam.

When Tendulkar embarked on a glorious career taming Imran and company, Roger Federer was a name unheard of; Lionel Messi was in his nappies, Usain Bolt was an unknown kid in the Jamaican backwaters.

The Berlin Wall was still intact, USSR was one big, big country, Dr Manmohan Singh was yet to "open" the Nehruvian economy. It seems while Time was having his toll on every individual on the face of this planet, he excused one man. Time stands frozen in front of Sachin Tendulkar. We have had champions, we have had legends, but we have never had another Sachin Tendulkar and we never will.

You write as if Tendulkar is on top of the world.Remember that cricket is a game played by less than 10 countries making it the least popular game in the world.5/6th of the world population don't care about cricket.
And cricket was invented more than 100 years back in England.100 years is more than enough time for a game to become popular.Yet it is not popular.Hence it will never become popular. It will die out in less than 50 years as lara has recently stated.

1)Game played by fewest nations and most of the cricket playing nations already showed disinterest in cricket(west indies ,australia...
2) Game dominated by climate(moist pitch ..ball turns,,,grass on pitch,,bouncer...ha ha ha
Everything is done by climate...what the xxx the player is doing there
3) People say it’s a pure team game....?????
look at footbal,basketball,vollyball...all the players of both the teams play together(11-11,6-6,11-11..etc)
but in case of cricket its always 11 vs 2(bats man) ha ha ha ..still its a team game...

kabhi kabhi player ko batting bhi nahin milta hain….ha ha ha

Affiliation does not matter. Most of the affiliated nations are just token representatives fed by ICC.

Ajai, UR quite right. It is a silly colonial game in which 40 yr olds play, eat and drink during the game! It is not even popular in England.Indian govt and media encourage it to pull the wool over the millions of jobless and starving. Our National game, Hockey is in disgrace.

IT IS NOT A FAULT OF SACHIN ... IF CRICKET IS PLAYED BY ONLY 10 COUNTRIES ... IT IS MATTER TO ICC ..HIS GREATNESS IS UNDOUBTED AND IT IS IRRELEVANT HOW MANY COUNTRIES PLAY CRICKET ...
