Batsman 1 Sunil Gavaskar (has to be in 11) 2 Gautam Ghambhir 3 Rahul Dravid (has to be in 11) 4 Sachin Tendulkar (has to be in 11) 5 Dilip Vengsarkar 6 Virender Sehwag (has to be in 11) All Rounders 1 Kapil Dev (has to be in 11) 2 Ravi Shastri Bowlers 1 Zaheer Khan 2 Anil Kumble 3 B S Bedi (has to be in 11) 4 E Prassana 5 J Srinath Wicket Keepers 1 M S Dhoni 2 Sayed Kirmani Now choose your best 11. Technically its not possible to pick a playing 11 from all greats. For people watching cricket today no one other than Tendulkar can bat at 4 but then we have GR Vishwanath, D Vengsarkar, MK Pataudi, Lala Amernath and even someone like VVS Laxman who can occupy this spot in the team. My batting squad is having only 2 old timers and rest from the current generation. For the All Rounders another close contender would me Mohinder Amarnath. None others can i recall to my mind. For the bowlers it was very easy for J Srinath and Z Khan to book there slots with Kapil Dev... the only other highly sucessful Indian fast bowlers. Same goes true for spinners as these 3 happen to be the best among so many great spinners India has produced. For the Freaks like me... ask Rahul to Keep.... anyways these greats will only play together on this discussion forum.. ;-)

If you are making a all time greatest Indians list, you should also keep players like Ranjit Singh, Daleep Singh, Vijay Hazare, Binu Mankad, Polly Umrigar, Vijay Manjarekar, Lala Amarnath, Pataudi, Chandrashekhar, apart from the modern players, too. Azharuddin shouldn't be included in the list. He is a traitor and a very overrated player, hardly playing good against quality fast bowling. Ganguly won't be there in top 10 if we consider only his batting skills, but he has changed the Indian cricket in lot many ways, by removing regionalism, nurturing true talents and infusing mental toughness to the players. So, for that, he should be in top 10.
However, dhoni might prove himself to be a more successful captain, before he retires and then he too will be in top 10, definitely.

Hi Zanu,
Your list already contains eleven among the top ten! Others like Tendulkar and Dravid are also to be included. So, there are a total of thirteen in the top ten. Good going!

Gundappa Vishwanath should be in top 5. He is most probably the best batsman in terms of technicality.
Vengsarkar is another player, whose name I haven't seen in the list. He surely was one of the greatest middle order batsman in his days.

I agree partially, thats why i mentioned 30-35 years. You guys were too fast for me, i was putting team -C and included the players Viswanath and Vengi.
Btw if Azhar shudn't be included due to match fixing then it becomes controversial as many indian players were involved according to media reports. Azhar introduced the winning habit to the team, showed how to play to strengths (u call it home tigers). India-C 1. R.J Shastri – Vice Captain 2. K. Srikkanth 3. G. Viswanath -- Captain 4. Dilip Vengsarkar 5. Yashpal Sharma 6. Yuveraj Singh 7. Nayan Mongia 8. Zaheer Khan 9. Ajit Agarkar 10. Arshad Ayub 11. L. Sivaramakrishnan 12. Sanjay Manjrekar 12th Man (To be replaced with Vengsarkar or Yashpal Sharma)
Please don't fight, i'm adding to your fantasy 3 best teams in the order of superior performance
Indian Dream Team (from last 30-35 years) for test cricket (Arranged by batting position) India-A 1. Sunil Gavaskar 2. V.Sehwag 3. Rahul Dravid 4. Sachin Tendulkar 5. Sourav Ganguly 6. Kapil Dev --- Captain 7. M.S. Dhoni --- Vice Captain 8. Anil Kumble 9. Bishen Bedi 10. Javagal Srinath 11. E. Prasanna 12. Sandip Patil (12th Man to be replaced with middle order batsman or spin bowler depending on pitch condition)

India-B 1. Gautam Gambir 2. Navjot Singh Sidhu 3. M. Amarnath 4. V. Kambli 5. M. Azharuddin -- Captain 6. Roger Binny 7. Madan Lal 8. M.Prabhakar 9. S. Kirmani 10. Harbhajan Singh 11. Dilip Doshi 12. VVS Laxman – 12th man (to be replaced with Kambli or Amarnath)

Azharuddin shouldn't be in any list. He is a traitor. We do not want a traitor to captain any of our teams.

are you trying to make a test team or a one day team?.. if it's a test team, Ganguly and Dhoni won't be there..rather, I would add Pataudi, Kirmani, Bishwanath, Amarnath. Whereas if it is a one day team, then Dravid, Gavaskar, Bedi won't be there. Also, Kapil wasn't a good captain. In test team, Pataudi should be included and he will be captain, whereas in one day team, it should be Ganguly. Also, I feel, Zahir Khan is a better fast bowler than Srinath, but that's debatable.

Its a test team only, i restricted to last 30-35 years as i haven't seen much cricket (even highlights) before that. Its hard to restrict to 1 team and thus i came up with 3 teams.

You are too emotional man (too many movies, aah?) that you forgot Dhoni who is better than Kirmani and Mongia, not due to his wicket keeping abilities but due to his batting and cricketing brain.
Well...if ignore Dhoni...it's better not to have a wicket keeper at all. Let's not have wicket keeper and let all ten players chase the ball as soon as the bowler delivers the ball.

There is no best 2 or 3 the best is always 1 thats why it is called best. You are probably fan of ganguly otherwise no one will agree to this...
