If a team is satisfied to level a series while leading 1-0 then I think this team don't deserve number 1 ranking.
India showed the real sign of a champion. Levelling a 2 test series after trailing by 1-0 on a flat track is awesome achievement specially in absence of some key players.

as BCCI is planning & arranging to send INDIA to tour of SRI LANKA for test series (3 matches test series) after the T20 WC this year, that means around may or june or, may be july-aug as heard earlier, IND hopefully will be playing 3 more test matches against SRI LANKA this year & then again BCCI is planning to have 2 or 3 test match series against AUSTRALIA this year around sept-oct, in order to give our players chance to try to retain the no 1 position in test.if all these matches happen in 2010, that means already 4 and 5 or 6 more that means around 9-10 match this year which is absolutely the amount of test ind does need to play every year to fight for retainig their no 1 ranking.. so hopefully 5 test matches more india will play this year.. hopefully sachin plays 5 more tests this year if india plays 5 more in this year and then after 2011 WC, next year hopefully or assuming IND will play around 8 tests, so it will make 13-14 matches sachin will get if retires at the very beginning of 2012 or at the very end of 2011.. that means around 180 matches he will play, hopefully in these 14 matches he will score another 1150-1200 runs.. so that means around 14600-14700 runs.. if he is that close of coveted 15000 mark in test, he should play 3-4 matches more(1 mores series in early 2012) to reach 15000.. he should surely reach to coveted 50 century mark in test if not 51, from herein (47 now).. all the best to him to reach 15k in test with may be 51-52 100's

Yes losing a test after 2 years long gap in absence of some regular memeber is not a big issue.

no one here is talking abt tht.LOL.the comment tht Sa doesnt DESERVE NO RANKING IS the point.as we have been showing all these years the qualities of it.LOL
South Afric must consider themselves unlucky. In last couple of months, they were thwarted twice by England's last pair, which forced them to accept a drwn series which they should have won 3-1, and here, their last pair could not hold on for another 9 balls! They played the series with just two batsment; all others being out of form. Just one South African batsman was enough to hold India to a draw.

Yes SA was unlucky against England. But against India they were lucky because just before the series 4 regular memeber of indian test side got injured.
Amla himself accepted that dropped catches help him alot.
India didn't play to his potential otherwise it could be 1-0 in favour of India.

Yes I agree. Aus is not as strong as they were before 2007. SA recent performance is very poor. It gave other teams a chance to come at number 1.
It happens in cricket like after WI downfall other team became number 1. It's India time.

India is domination from last 2 years in test format. We have beaten almost all test teams in this time. And 2 years is not a small time!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone explain what's the big deal being no.1 in a sport played seriously only by 8-10 nations while other countries excel in various Olympic sports both winter and summer. some MoronAndStupidIndians gloat that we are no. 1 in cricket. Its like beig no.1 in kabaddi. The world at large does not know about either of these 2 sports. And think about all the cricket playing countries. apart from India, none of them have cricket as their no. sport. SA= rugby, Australia= rugby/aussie rules football, NZ= rugby, all countries of West Indies = soccer, England = football, Pakistan = hockey, Sri Lanka = not sure (maybe only country other than Inida to have criket as their no.1 sport). wat a shame for bcciteamindia that these countries are far superior in all aspects of cricket than us.
So what is the great deal about 11 players from a pool of 1.1 billion people being no.1 in a sport about which almost 5/6th of humanity have no idea or interest about hahahahahahahaha
