Why don't you skip some matches? Any one forcing you to waste a day?

India's best bet..
by Gorango Thakurta on Feb 08, 2010 02:47 AM

is to bat it out. I seriously doubt India's bowling attack in thisgame can get 10 SA wickets in the 2nd innings. Draw this one and come back with a better attack next game.

PD:

After 6-2, similar experts on Rediff had predicted SA will go down within 150-200 and WATCH India bowl...

Now you are suggesting WATCH India bat....

Fair enough.... we've watched their bowling.... now we'll watch their batting... :)

SA in control
by Bodh Ramdeo on Feb 07, 2010 11:01 PM

I'm depressing that SA could muster 558 runs only, in its 2-day knock. I had figured they'd reach at least 1000 runs by end of 2nd day's play, especially seeing how good they had become at eating bhajji.

Kohli for test cricket
by aman malhotra on Feb 07, 2010 10:02 PM  | Hide replies

Though i am not fond of Virat kohli and dont see him as a match winner against quality teams in ODIs,his temperament and batting style is more suited for test cricket...Could have been given a chance in this series specially when laxman is doubtful.

if u go by the batting performance in 5 day matches then PUJARA and MANISH PANDEY seems to be better replacement for LAxman as compare to KOHLI.

India lacks a match winning spin bowler!
by Talisman on Feb 07, 2010 09:29 PM  | Hide replies

Indian team needs to find a match winning spinner. Guys like Harbachan and Mishra lack the guile of the great spinners that india produced in the past.

Harbachan is not in the same class as Prasanna, Venkat, Bedi, or Warne and Kumble who can create chances even on a placid pitch.

India has no spinner that strikes fear in the opposition. Being #1 side, dont we deserve to have that option?

Totally agree with your assessment. This has been evident for a long time, none of our current crop of spinners come even close to the legends of the past. What is more troubling is that they are unable to take wickets even in our own back yard.

India will loose this match !
by yogesh Puranik on Feb 07, 2010 09:26 PM  | Hide replies

india will loose this match due to following reasons :
1. Pathetic selection like saha who is by profession wicket kipper is doing duty of fielder in covers for rohit sharma.
2. Only experienced person like Sachin is having poor record against South africa . He avaergaes 28 in last 8 test matches against them .
3. Dhoni is under immense pressure to save India's no.1 test ranking .
4. Zaheer is not finding better partner to penetrate in South african batting order . Ishant Sharma is flop show.
5. Murli Vijay is opening batsman is forced to play no.3 position for which requires specialist like dravid, kallis and numerous experince against like steyn, morkell
6. Spin attack is weaker due to not in form Harbhajan so as out of form and inexperienced middle order.
But it will show loopholes in team selection and overall the inability of our selectors to select the proper team for battle for this no.1 spot.It will remind us what Mohinder Amernath said 2 decades ago as selectors are bunch of jokers. The selections and decisions made by earlier committee of Dilip Vengasarkar was really ruthless and wise.

Hmmm. Murali Vijay is a good selection. See no problem with that.

That fool Rohit Sharma getting injured 15 minutes before an important test match is not a selection problem.

Selecting a wicket keeper that cannot bat very well is a no-no in this age. So, you have got to question Saha's selection.

We all know Ishant is not in the best of the form. This selection committee and team management doesnt have the guts to give a newer bowler a chance.

Yes. We should be looking for spinners that can make a difference.

1. Rohit Sharma and Saha can not be replacement for the caliber of Dravid , Laxman . You need pure test batsmen to replace them and not 20-20 specialist like Rohit.
2. How the spinners will win the match for us if our inexperienced batsmen did not put decent score against like likes steyn, mokell. It is joint team effort required to take 20 wickets.
Srikant and company, your days are over as selectors with this series .
