The explanation is very simple- the home team is out-classed and outplayed by a far superior team. SA is known for its superior performance- unlike the easily-discouraged home boys, the visitors have plunk- they always rise top the occasion.

Just like they did during their various world cup essays...
imho, it was just cricket and the 2 played well... it is a test, lets wait the other 4 days before becoming the monday morning armchair quarterbacks that we all are...

Yep, it is too early to comment after the end of first day. I think this test would end in a draw.

What was Rohit Sharma doing to suffer a sprain 15 mins before start? By that time playing eleven would have been declared and toss would also been over. Dhoni is lying about the fact to hide the pressures to include Saha. He could have opted for an extra bowler instead.

Why u r after Saha.He is India's no 1 wicketkeeper now, even better than Dhoni. When worthless karthick played matches after matches and failed for last 3 years where were you?Don't you feel that Murli Vijay or even Badrinath are not substandard players and are not worth critisising. You r communal and biased.

I am not against Saha. Rather I am happy to see youngsters like Saha, Dinda etch who come up from non-traditional centres. You are missing the point.
What I am saying is there is no cricketing reason to play a second wicket keeper in the eleven. If he was no.1 wicket keeper, play him instead of Dhoni in the eleven. Karthik is far more accomplished than most wicket keepers in the country, though his wicket keeping has been below-par recently. But there was nothing wrong with his wicketkeeping when he was dropped. Again, look at Badrinath's records for the last decade and find if any other cricketer has performed so consistently in domestic cricket. He was not getting a break because of stalwarts like Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman playing in middle order, which is only bad luck rather than anything else. What I say is based on cricketing facts only.

its not against saha. but it was a wrong strategy to select 2nd keeper in the xi. v cud hv taken 5 bolrs.
btw, saha may not b a good batsman. neither he is no 1 keeper. instead parthiv cud hv been better choice. but still parthiv cant b taken alongwith dhoni in the team.
