Think about devastation- does it really hurt?
by sumie beg on Dec 31, 2010 12:50 PM

It's not sad- it's a matter of arrogance. No offense, but Mr. Ponting is the worst captains of the world. He used ex-players like McGrath, Warne and Gilchrist to make his name in fame. He argues with every captain, even Warne! Even a new captain will find it difficult to fill the void where you have a new young Oz side except Watson.

Ricky Thomas Ponting (born 19 December 1974), nicknamed Punter, is the current captain of the Australian cricket team. He is a specialist right-handed batsman, slips and close catching fielder, as well as a very occasional bowler. He is regarded as one of Australia's finest cricketers in the modern era. He represents the Tasmanian Tigers in Australian domestic cricket and played in the Indian Premier League with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008.Despite a poor Test series, Ponting's form in ODIs remained strong. In consecutive tournaments in India and Sharjah following the Tests, Ponting scored 467 runs at 51.88. In addition to three fifties, Ponting scored 145 from 158 balls in the Pepsi Cup against Zimbabwe in Delhi, equalling Dean Jones' Australian record.[71][72] Ponting also had his first confrontation with Harbhajan Singh, an Indian off spinner who went on to have much success against him. In a Coca-Cola Cup series ODI against India in April, he and Mark Waugh put on more than 80 runs in 12 overs before Harbhajan was introduced into the attack. In the spinners second over, Ponting took him for four then lofted him over mid-wicket for six next ball. The following delivery saw Ponting use his feet in an attempt to get to the pitch of the ball but missed the shot and was consequently stumped. After the dismissal the pair clashed verbally. Ponting wrote,Sharjah incident was the result of me being over-competitive but it had the potential to get quite nasty.count 100 to c

Its all over

What goes around comes around. It all started in Sydney in 2008 where little Ricky and his team's shamefull behaviour started it all. Now that his golden years are starting, Ponting should ask himself if it was worth winning that Sydney test the way they won it. It started in Sydney and now it is ending in Sydney. Poetic justice is what I say....

Popatlal:

If you remember correctly Sydney was a 100% drawn test match despite all the controversies...

It was the magical last over from Clarke which saw one of the most improbably wins in Test cricket history...

Wouldn't you want one such over from an Indian some day? Of course you'll say you won't. :)

1 magical over doesnt change the bad manners shown for 5days. recollect what happend from 1st day and then decide if it was 100% drawn test Or a test which India should have won. How many test have Aus won over India after Syndey, can u tell?

:) I noticed that the bad manners were repeated by the Indians (in the form of Sreesanth, Davis and Rauf) at Durban this time around... :)

With Ponting out....England will worry, now that who ever replaces him..... is sure to score more than out of form Ponting.

Very true... unfortunately India doesn't get to enjoy such luxuries... ;-)

However, in his defence, our honourable captain did scratch around sufficiently in the present series to put together the highest total runs yet... :)

This is not the farewell man of pontings stature deserves. He should get a last shot for redemption in 2013 Ashes in England.

I would probably stop watching test cricket if punter is forced to retire after WC

Very well said... It is indeed quite lucky for bowlers across the world that Punter is just gas... that's why he has scored ONLY 9 tons and 33 fifties in all forms of the game since that fateful Sydney test (since when he is said to have lost his whatever little cricket skill)...
If only Punter was NOT gas, the world bowlers would have something devastating on their hands surely... :)

If he gets back in form, he won't be dropped from the test team. At the least, he'll get a farewell test. All depends on how the WC goes.
