It's not sad- it's a matter of arrogance. No offense, but Mr. Ponting is the worst captains of the world. He used ex-players like McGrath, Warne and Gilchrist to make his name in fame. He argues with every captain,even Warne! Even a new captain will find it difficult to fill the void where you have a new kangaroos except Watson.

Jokes apart, Ponting has been a good batsman and a reasonable captain (even now with a drastically untalented team compared to the erstwhile greats, as the Perth result showed).
Just because Cricket has one great player does not mean that others can't co-exist... :)
Sachin too was written off 3-4 years back; but is performing better than the best young talent available in India today - having gone on to score the only double in ODIs... agree?
So let's just agree that what Sachin is to current Indian team; Ponting is to the current Australian team.... period... Can do? :)

Of course he is, but both are now past their prime and should quit after World Cup. Time to make way for new blood. While AT least SACHIN is playing well, Ponting is not. He seems to be a pale shadow of his former self.

All indians will agree Sachi should be given record ratna for his own,not for team like VV special,also sachin's one reverse ,negative record is whenever he plays,india looses,so sachin out early,we have got chance,also as a captain Sachin had been worst than ponting,now some idiots will say Dhoni got best players,but who tied sachin and selectors hands in that his captaincy era?????Many people challengeing that record ratna shud win coming WC for india,then he is our real hero.Lets see.Delhi id not too far.

1) PONTING NEVER HAD TO PLAY REALLY STRONG BOWLING LINE LIKE AUSTRALIA. 2) NO DOUBT SACHIN IS ONE OF THE BEST (NOT THE BEST OF BEST) BATSMEN. 3) HOWEVER SACHIN MISS THE GOODWILL WHICH VVS ENJOYS UNDISPUTED. I.E WHENEVER INDIA NEED VVS HAS PLAYED 90% OF THE TIEMS. SACHIN IS FAR BEHIND ON THIS FRONT.

Well noted Mr.Veer...but i feel there is no comparision for Sachin & Ricky..Ricky is far behind..I can say Kallis is a head of ponting..he played well in subcontinet as well..but ricky failed in his all subcontinent tour..
Australia is likely to bring in Khwaja in place of Michael Clarke and move Ponting to #4! Khwaja is set to bat at #3!! Similarly, I think Pujara should bat at #3 while Dravid should bat after Laxman!! Dravid's wicket is putting needless pressure on India at #3!!

australia have to drop ponting,clarke,north until they regain form.m.hussey/haddin/watson must lead aussies in tests.bring some players who are really capable of playing well to rebuild aussie batting lineup.bowling lineup needs some changes.instead of bowlers with gentle pace quick bowlers have to lead bowling attack.total rebuild in batting&bowling is required.the same was done after poor performance under S.waugh during triseries at 2002 in AUS and after Ashes loss in 2005.
