Hahahaha. LOL. If Sachin gets injured I will watch the full test match. India will win without his useless centuries.

If Sachin plays
by Jaya S on Dec 25, 2010 06:55 PM  | Hide replies

India will lose in 3.5 days.
Sachin will score when the result is almost sure. If there is a lot at stake, he will fail.
This is the pattern of all his innings.

Agree with Jaya. Since mid-2000s Sachin seems to be playing just for the records. In fact, in recent years, he has been choosing which matches to play and which not (a privilege no other player has). Graeme Smith was right about his attitude AFTER he got to his 50th ton (making tail-enders face more deliveries than himself). Despite his records, he seems to be one of the most selfish cricketers, much like Gavaskar was during his time. The recent poll about australians picking Sachin over Sir Bradman is a joke. On a personal front, he has shown equal selfishness by seeking duty waiver for the ferrari he brought to Mumbai few years back (despite being the highest earning cricketer for years !!!). Let's hope Sachin strives to be a good human being, though statistics show that he's a good cricketer !!

@Suresh Kumar. There is a difference between how many have really helped India win and how many happened to be Indian wins where Sachin merely also happened to score a century as co-incidence.

If you see the former, I would say 2% of centuries actually helped India win. I mean really really helped India win (I am talking about Chennai test against England). Just one.

Laxman has two just in 2010 and Sachin 1 in 21 years of playing.

The whole world is praising sachin. Even Australians have rated him ahead of Bradman in recent poll then why are u writing sarcasticaly dear Jaya.Have you any personal animosity against Sachin -the great player and good human being?I doubt whether you are Indian.

Biggest Joke of 2010.....
by bango tango on Dec 25, 2010 06:48 PM  | Hide replies

ToI is condusting a poll to vote 4 the World's Greatest Sports Personality ....the list includes 12 names...

The biggest joke is the list misses the names of Wayne Gretzky, Sergei Bubka, Yelena Isniabayeva, Micheal Phelps Lin Dan ....

The bigger joke is between Sachin and Dhyan Chand, there are 81% votes. This shows how ridiculous this poll is. Only 19% amongst Federer, Pele, Ali, Carl Lewis and the rest of the non-Indian nominees. LOL. This is a poll with a lot of credibility!!!!!!!

A few sportspersons like Federer, Johnson, Pele etc. are included in the list. I am not sure whether it is going to the world audience or confined only to India. Cricket is not known to 95% of the countries in the world. It is an 8-nation game. India is cricket crazy and we are obsessed with the game and Tendulkar's achievements. Naturally, all Indians will vote for him and he will win hands down. But is it a true reflection of real greatness? After all, most of the others in the list of TOI ( I do not remember the complete list) have played or are playing global games unlike cricket which is confined to just 8 countries. So, how far it is correct to even conduct such a poll? In our own country, even the achievements of the likes of Bindra (Olympic gold), Vishwanathan Anand (multiple world championship played by many more countries than cricket) will definitely rank higher. However, as everything is media driven and popularity driven, you have to perhaps bow to that and say, `Tendulkar is the greatest ever sportsman', even if you are not convinced of the same!

Interesting poll this !! Maybe it is being conducted in some 'peepli live' kinda' village...LOL !!! The recent poll in Australia was an equally big joke.....where australians are believed to have voted more for Sachin for their native Sir Don Bradman. It's like Indians voting for Jinnah as the Greatest Leader of 20th Century, instead of Gandhiji !! Need to take such polls as a good joke, nothing more !!
BTW, I feel Sachin is just ONE of the greatest cricketers to have played the game (so far). Going overboard with his achievements (mostly because he's an Indian) undermines the contributions and achievements of greats like Sir Bradman, Sir Gary Sobers, etc....even in cricket. Statistics aren't the best / only way to judge people, because as they say - it hides more than it reveals.
