Sachin and Bradman
by Gajanan on Dec 20, 2010 10:15 AM  | Hide replies

OK agreed they play in different era and under different circumstances. But these playing itself makes Sachin much better than Bradman. To me these are key differentiators are as given below, u judge who is the best:
1. Bradman played 37 out of his 52 matches against one opponent, England i.e. he batted against same style of attack. So one can argue that he got accustomed to play against the English attack. Whereas Sachin played against all test plying nations i.e. varied style and attack.
2. Technology was not used in cricket then. Whereas Sachin was the first player to be judged run-out by the third umpire. The point is with advent of technology it is more difficult to get the benefit of doubt. Let's accept, if technology was used in Bradman's time he might have been run-out few extra times than what he did and therefore his final batting avg. would not have been 99.94.
3. Bradman scored 18 out of his 29 centuries and 61% of his total runs at home. Sachin scored 22 out oh his 50 centuries (till date) and 45% of his total runs at home. It is usually considered that there is a "home advantage" is cricket.
4. People do argue that Bradman played fast bowlers without helmet and other guards. Well but using guards is and added burden and it only slows down the speed of attack. BTW.. Sachin also played the fierce attack of fast blowers like Ambrose, Walsh, Imran, Akram, Waqar and some of the best spinners cricket has ever produced Murli and Warne.

only 1% indians who are jealous of sachin achievements write nonsence on the board probably they have a little knowledge about cricket.
Sachin always humble, dedicated team man, not bothered about the 1% barking dogs, he carry on doing his duty. PEOPLE TALK ABOUT BRODMAN, whom young generation not even witnessed his bating. FACT IS A FACT; ALL CRICKET LEGENDS AND FANS AROUND THE WORLD HAIL SACHIN ' GREAT AMBASSODOR OF THE GAME'. NO ONE MATCH HIM, BECAUSE HE IS THE GOD OF CRICKET. HE IS A TRUE INSPIRATION FOR ALL INDIANS.

@Pramod. Only if somebody else scores a hundred also India can win. Sachin alone scoring a hundred means only personal records. I would like to know how many times Sachin is the only one who scored a 100 for India and we won.

Mahesh, the bottomline is only RAIN can save us. We know India is heading for a heavy defeat, so being an Indian I feel there is no reason to celebrate a useless 100 by an individual in a team game.

Not such a special knock
by Jaya S on Dec 20, 2010 09:24 AM  | Hide replies

Did it help the team win or save the game? - NO (only rain can save the game)

Was there too much pressure? - NO (India was out of it when Sachin came it to bat so he was batting without much pressure)

Was Sachin the lone warrior - NOT AT ALL. Almost everyone played as well or better than Sachin. Gambhir 80, Sehwag 63, Dhoni 90.

Was the pitch challenging? - NO. Absolutely not. This is the same pitch where AB scored the century in 75 balls and AMLA and Kallis hammered our bowlers.

With all the above in mind, it is safe to assume, Sachin can play only on flat tracks, when there is no pressure and everyone in the team has contributed. King of good times.

Agree Veera. I will wait for one more day but my point is everyone batsman from both teams cashed in on this pitch- Petersen, Smith, amla, Kallis, Devilliers, Gambhir, Sehwag, Dhoni..so what's the big deal.
Can Sachin play like Laxman and win the game for India along with tail enders by staying till the end? This game is not possible but has he ever done it?

In foreign conditions, under sharp pace attack Sachin has scored 143 and Dhoni has scored 123,these two are the highest scorer.

So,I suggest critics of these two players to understand why Sachin and Dhoni are exceptional players and without their performance,India would have suffered a humiliating defeat ...if Laxman,Sehwag,Raina,Gambhir and Dravid would have contributed even 150 more runs together, this match would have been evenly poised...

Poor Suresh Raina
by India on Dec 20, 2010 02:52 AM

Suresh Raina has become a zero from hero. My heart goes out to him. I hope the selectors don't dump him. The curse of a "debutant centurian" has become officially true. It is good Pujara did not get a century in his first test. It was tragic to see Suresh giving catching practice twice in this match to the slips of the same bowler Kallis. What is the point in selecting a young player like Suresh who has failed consistently even at home against the weakest team like New Zealand? Suresh should not have been seleceted based on his total lack of form, especially against the strong side like South Africa playing in South Africa. This proves that India has a bufoon as Chairman of selectors in K Srikkanth.
