India lost or drawn most of these matches
by Suresh Kalmadi on Dec 20, 2010 01:08 PM  | Hide replies

21 Years for 50 Centuries - That means 2.5 Centuries every Year.

175 Tests for 50 Centuries - That means in every 3.5 Tests he scored 1 century.

This is good, but definitely not great.
Also, stats clearly show, he has played very very few match winning knocks.

Forget Bradman, even Sehwag is way ahead.

Bradman scored - 71% test against england and scored 65% hundreds against England. what is Great in that???? removes all Sachin's hundreds in all the match we lost, then see the defeat margin.

It only means that sachin is the lone warrior in the team for most of the times... he fights even when no one else is there to support him.. its futher great. U compare brad, sewag, punter or anyone,,.. no one can achieve great in both test & ODIs,, we wonder if don or anyone can survive intenational cricke for this long. Even the longest survivors like sanath could just not able to maintain consistency.. that's the great past about SRT... longer & still stronger!!!

My Brother it is very easy to say but most difficult to perform just go and stand in the middle of the ground and face one ball you will get your answer and out 10dulkar is standing from last 21 years, same attitude towards the people, same style, same as he was in his 1st match. It is very easy to blaim my brother. Just go out in the world and see that lakhs and crores of people knows India because of 10dulkar. So never say like that

Great, we are waiting for 100 international 100. I can see some Sachin critics; crying for Sachin retirements in this site. I know they are foreign viewers loggin in with Indian names to demoralize Sachin :)

Sachin and Bradman
by Gajanan on Dec 20, 2010 10:12 AM  | Hide replies

OK agreed they play in different era and under different circumstances. But these playing itself makes Sachin much better than Bradman. To me these are key differentiators are as given below, u judge who is the best:
1. Bradman played 37 out of his 52 matches against one opponent, England i.e. he batted against same style of attack. So one can argue that he got accustomed to play against the English attack. Whereas Sachin played against all test plying nations i.e. varied style and attack.
2. Technology was not used in cricket then. Whereas Sachin was the first player to be judged run-out by the third umpire. The point is with advent of technology it is more difficult to get the benefit of doubt. Let's accept, if technology was used in Bradman's time he might have been run-out few extra times than what he did and therefore his final batting avg. would not have been 99.94.
3. Bradman scored 18 out of his 29 centuries and 61% of his total runs at home. Sachin scored 22 out oh his 50 centuries (till date) and 45% of his total runs at home. It is usually considered that there is a "home advantage" is cricket.
4. People do argue that Bradman played fast bowlers without helmet and other guards. Well but using guards is and added burden and it only slows down the speed of attack. BTW.. Sachin also played the fierce attack of fast blowers like Ambrose, Walsh, Imran, Akram, Waqar and some of the best spinners cricket has ever produced Murli and Warne.

What is the rest of the team doing. Dont forget the team comprises of 11 players. & you cant blame Sachin for that.

If South Africa can pick 16 wickets why were the Indian bowlers at the mercy of SouthAfrican batsmen & picked up only 4 wickets giving runs at will. Indian bowlers bowled at a little less then 5 runs per over which is way to high as per any test standards. If they had restricted the scoring rate may be we would have had a draw by now.

that doesnt matter..if we lose, that is not his fault. look into current game. He done more than his part. The whole team not even done half of their part. dont blame sachin for losing games. ( except one test against pakisthan in chennai, when he threw away his wicket and team lost because of that). Still Sachin remember that and always say " If I batted till the end we could have won that match"

Ok... adding that column also proves Sachin's greatness too, Century in winning match really dosen't matter because win always come through team effort. But century knock like yesterday in loosing match is shows his greatness. The knock which saves the defeat of team to end result draw also proves the greatness of that knock not the end result. Person like you don't know the test match. So please do not open your mouth about Sachin's ability.

TENDULKAR Vs DON
by rdanlal on Dec 19, 2010 11:34 PM  | Hide replies

Valid points Mohit, but that doesn't take anything away from Don. I'm not against sachin, i would love his innings as much you do, but on the contrary,
1. Don played fiery pacers with out guard pads or any modern sophisticated equipments this modern day cricket offers
2. It's not 90 overs/day he faced; at times, its more than 160 overs/day.
3. If he had rich board like BCCI, and paid handsome apart from ADs etc. he would have doubled his avg.
4. If there was any media like today, he would have become president of his country with one innings.

1) doesn't have lot of relevance. Bowlers of those days would have been much slower than bowlers of today. The only thing he didn't use was a helmet. Mind i tell you that wearing armour only slows down your response time. So wearing helmet etc also has a price.
160 overs a day -- do you have any proof regarding this ? wait, do you even watch cricket ?
3) mind explaining the doubling his average phenomenon ?Also are you saying that umpires of those days were completely impartial ? Also, are you telling me that CA and england boards didn't control cricket ?
4. There was media those days dimwit.

rdanlal,
It is idiotic to compare Don and Sachin, they both played in different eras, conditions, if Media, endorsements and other Kits for protection are the only things for achievement, there are several Cricketers who get those benifits, then why the hell they did not hit or have a Record like Sachin? Secondly, were you born at that time and see Don Bradmans Batting? going by your way of your unrealistic Calculation of playing 160 Overs a day, people should play for atleast 13 hours, owling attack those days relate to that day standards and nothing more or nothing less in todays terms.
The BOTTOM LINE IS, IGNORENT, UNQUALIFIED AND IDIOT PEOPLE LIKE YOU DON'T HAVE ANY RIGHT TO COMMENT.
