Lot of people are sayiny that p0nting has won 3 world cup but this is the team sport and team australia has won and there are good contribution from all the team not only ponting.
Second point is if world cutp is the criteria then there is no great player from countries like England ,South Afrika and new zealand becuase thaes teams have not won world cup any time.
If all the people have their memory strong then take a look at 2003 world cup where sachin alone taken India into the final and in that world cup there are not much contribution from any other player except bowlers.
Also Don Bradman,Boycot,Lara,Martin crowe many others have not won world cup therefore they are not great player.
