Drawing conclusions on the basis of just one test match win against a team which is on worst decline is not correct Mr Vaughan.

The fact is that English cricket team is still a mediocre team and lacks consistency.

England the proper no 1
by Narayanan Mahalingam on Dec 10, 2010 11:11 AM

Vaughan is right. If one looks at their batting, it looks really strong and looks like it can stay that way for 4 - 5 years.

Their bowling is good and Swann is impressive and leagues above our Harbhajan.

It is a matter of time before England takes no 1, though it depends on how SA fares.

Its going to be really difficult for India in SA. As usual the first team wont be India's best as has been the case but the remaining ones should be good. From SA's perspective they should prepare green top if they have to take a lead.

I do not think so. These days BCCI dictates its terms on every cricket board.

2 years back NZ made tailor made flat pitches for India in 2008 and Indian batsmen had a swansong in NZ for the first time. Otherwise, Team India always had a disastrous tour on NZ pitches earlier.

There would be no surprises if SA cricket board prepares placid wickets for Indian team (under pressure from BCCI money power) this time and India wins the series for the first time.

It sure is going to be tough battle. A battle between their pacers and our batters. England at the moment looks compact and a classy side, gelling very well under Strauss's leadership.

Wait for SA tour
by Punter on Dec 09, 2010 11:16 PM  | Hide replies

India's no.1 status will be known after the tour of SA. The more overseas tours India has, the more it would slip in world rankings.

Yes. Good Joke. Because BCCI money power and IPL power will be playing in SA.

Let's have a series against England in England right after WC

Mr. Vaughan, let's have the series against England in England right after WC.

We are anyway going to beat SA in SA before WC. England is not even the top three test side, lol.

Very well said... Given that we needed Ishant's batting to rescue us against Australia in Mohali, I think England will eat us alive anywhere...

Smoking pot creates illusions and hallucinations. The Aussies have been beaten by England and this means even Bangladesh can beat Aussies right now.

you should rather say even New Zealand can beat Aussiess....as i see New Zealand are the worst performing team right now...remember they lost 4-0 to Bangladesh...

Well with all these doesnt make Englishmen number one in the world. Usually, it is the habbit of British to claim superity with one win. First let them complete the series, 3 more to go.

Jaggu:

:) Is that why it took us some solid batting from Ishant to somehow reach a "formidable" target of 224 at Mohali?

:)
