scoring 300 plus in run chases
by Sunil Vaidya on Dec 09, 2010 02:59 AM  | Hide replies

1. sehwag 45 ganguly 60 yuvraj 69 kaif 87* sachin 14

2. laxman 66 dravid 109* bangar 57

3. yusuf pathan 123* parthiv patel 53 rohit sharma 44 saurabh tiwary 37*

4. ganguly 53 sachin 94 gambhir 47 dhoni 35 uthappa 47 *

5. sachin 8 gambhir 150* kohli 107

6. Ganguly 124 sachin 41 robin singh 82

7. gambhir 68 sehwag 42 raina 54 dhoni 67 yuvraj 36*

8. sachin 2 sehwag 39 dhoni 183*

9. ganguly 31 sachin 26 azhar 42 ajay jadeja 92 robin singh 42*

10. sehwag 119 raina 84 yuvraj 48 dhoni 26*

dhoni played in 4 of these 10 chases with stats- 4 matches 4 innings total runs 311 not out 2 average 150.5 100s-1 50s-1

as you can see sachin played in 6 of these 10 chases with stats- 6 matches 6 innings total runs 185 average 30.83 100s-0

50s-1.

that is why i have said so many times that sachin has never won any match single handedly for india. out of these 6 chases he

has scored 50 plus only once and even then as you can see there was nothing single handed about it. all batsmen contributed

very well. that is why i have said so many times give sachin targets like 180/200/220/240 and he will score centuries. give

him targets like 280/300/320/340 and he will struggle.

Think about the match in sharjah, where sachin blasted 144* to take india to the final, where we lost the match, but we progressed to the final and again about 130 in the final to win the cup.. Dont ever say sachin cannot win..

What about exciting 175 vs Ausies...chasing 350 runs...not easy chasing 350 runs.....

sara, thats what i said. sachin just crumbles under pressure. he flatters to deceive. he is not a finisher. he raises false hopes and gets out leaving the job undone. he loses steam/momentum when the finishing line is near and gets exhausted and falls down before crossing it. he knew there were not many wickets left and he should have finished the match. but he didn't/couldn't. and that was not surprising at all. if instead of sachin it was somebody like dhoni, yuvraj, raina, gambhir, kohli you could bet your last penny that they would have stayed till the end and saw india past the finishing line.

If both teams scored more than 300, that indicates that its a flat pitch. Winning a match single-handedly in a low scoring match is the real stat.

How much credit will u attribute for a ODI macth against Bangaladesh,
where Sachin makes 100 in first innings and India make 250-270 and
India win comfortably?
I would guess not much credit to it.
Flash-back to 2007 world cup match, Ind vs Ban , India lost
which resulted in ousting out of the world cup.
India made around 190 and Ban chased it in about 49 overs.
If Sachin made a century in that match, it would be like the case
I mentioned above.
Bottomline, every century he made counts irrespective of
opponent, ground and first/second innings. You will know the value of the
innings only if it never exists.
But players,selectors/commentators know that value.Thats why they
regard him as the greatest player.
Clueless ppl can keep barking that he cant win matches.

Basavaraju, all these days only karnatakans were occupying indian cricket, murali vijay is the only one tamilan in the squad, keep it in mind, after the previous world cup we didnt got any one because of partial selection, so atleast one from a state should be selected , see dravid plays 1 out of 20 matches successfully but he is still in the test squad, is it ridiculus, think it

Because Oz are too low a side to register such victory. They should first score a 300.

India was near to win chasing 350. It was hard luck that sachin got out at the last moment.

Yuvraj
by Red Rose on Dec 08, 2010 11:27 AM  | Hide replies

Yuvraj is another great player. He is has to be encouraged. Yuvraj, Pathan, Robin Uttappa are very talented player. They must be encouraged and groomed as they all can single handed can win matches especially in India. They need to play as per the situation, staying calm when required and blasting the opposition which comes naturally to them. They are killer. They are the guys, but, selection committe only going by performance, they should know how to use talented guys like them. Also media should take up their cause. The cause of big hitter, these talented lot. These are the guys on which cricket will grow. Cricket needs them. They will put fear in the opposition. Thats what India needs. With fear the opposition would not know what score they should put to win, they will try hard end up putting a small score. Other countries do not have such talented people, but we have, but selection committe does not the vision and clarity, to manage these talented guys and take Indian to a different level. They should have a long term plan and a short term plan. The should have a plan to manage talented people - not just go by performance all the time. If they are mentored, they will be match winners. Whether they have identified the weakness of Indian Team and what plan they have to over come them. Everybody knows that our weakness are 1. Fielding 2. We do have tear away fast bowlers. We need to have one or two guys whould run down the tailenders in Test and bowl tight lst 10ovrs 1 day
